Teófimo López took advantage of the attention on Saturday’s ESPN cards to mention Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, Gervonta Davis and Terence Crawford, in that order. Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) is desperate for a big fight after being passed over in his recent attempts to lure Devin Haney to face him.
If Teofimo is really interested in fighting Ennis, it would have to be at welterweight because he is too big to go down to 140.
In the interview, Lopez said he deserves a bigger cut for the guys he criticizes because he’s the “king of the division.” He’s not going to be able to defeat any of those guys with his attitude, and he’ll probably have to continue fighting the same dark opposition he’s had in recent years.
It is interesting that Teofimo, 27, wants to fight Ennis because, in the past, he felt that he did not contribute anything. Does his recent poor performance against Karen Chukhadzhian have anything to do with Teo’s sudden interest?
“I need a guy who is going to fight. If they say they are the best, fight the best,” Teófimo López told Top Rank Boxing, saying he wants to return to the ring against a good opponent. “Jaron Ennis ‘Boots’, Gervonta Davis and ends up with Terence Crawford,” Teofimo said when asked who he wanted to fight.
Gervonta isn’t going to waste his time fighting Teofimo because he has plenty of other fighters at 135 that he can face. Crawford doesn’t take Teo seriously and doesn’t get upset.
When ESPN’s Mark Kriegel asked Teofimo who he wanted to fight, he mentioned Boots, Tank and Crawford. This is not the first time that Teófimo mentions big names, and the only one who did so was Vasily Lomachenko. The rest of the guys Teófimo has fought with have been minors.
