Conor Benn says no one knows who IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is in England because he doesn’t have a “personality”.

Highly ranked undefeated Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) says he doesn’t look at Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs) when “big names” are mentioned because he is so well known in the UK.
Benn, 28, rates Boots as an outstanding fighter at 147, second only to Terence Crawford, but his lack of charisma and personality makes him unworthy of fighting.
It is undesirable. Jaron’s promoter Eddie Hearn obviously I have a heavy load trying to promote the Philadelphia native with his boring, flat and uninspiring personality. Hearn can’t do it alone. You need to build your brand, but it’s not happening.
Ennis doesn’t seem to realize that boxing is an entertainment business and that you have to be able to get people interested outside of the ring. Look at Tyson Fury. He’s not very talented and has a barren resume, but he’s made an absolute fortune thanks to his clown persona.
Boots has gone mad; Otherwise, he’s not worth Hearn keeping in his Matchroom team. Eddie is great at promoting fighters, but he can’t do it if they are only present in the body during the promotion of his fights.
Ennis isn’t doing the public relations (PR) work he needs to do outside of the ring, doing interviews, posting on social media, and creating personas. It needs a gimmick to sell itself to the public, but nothing is being done to create one.
Boots recently turned down a massive fight offer to move up to 154 and challenge Vergil Ortiz Jr. for his WBC interim title at His Excellency Turki Alalshikh’s Riyadh season event on February 22. That’s the worst possible career move Ennis could make.
“Who knows who Boots is? I was walking around Philadelphia and Miami. Everyone is familiar with the name Benn in America. “Ennis is coming to England, no one knows who he is,” Conor Benn told Fight Hub TV, revealing why he is not interested in fighting Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
“If you say ‘big names,’ I don’t look at it. I look at Pacquiao, Broner, Kell Brook and Khan, people interested in personalities. There’s not much of that (Con Botas),” Benn said.
Conor is ranked number 2 in the WBA, 2 in the WBC, 4 in the IBF and 7 in the WBO at welterweight. Benn says he hopes to challenge WBC 147-pound champion Mario Barrios (29-2-1, 15 KOs) in February 2025. That’s a fight Benn can win.
If he can get the WBC belt, there will be plenty of money to be made in his title defense against veterans Manny Pacquiao, Adrien Broner, Amir Khan and Kell Brook. Those are fights that would sell out in the UK, and His Excellency Turki Alalshikh might be interested in hosting some of them in Riyadh.
Barrios is coming off a 12-round draw against Abel Ramos (28-6-3, 22 KOs) on June 15 on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
