Waymo’s robot taxi is stuck on a curve

Circular roads. They trapped Clark Griswold in National Lampoon’s European Vacation, and now they’ve taken down a Waymo robot taxi.

A video shared on social media shows the Waymo robotaxi circling a roundabout – as if stuck on a curve. A Waymo spokesperson told TechCrunch that there were no passengers on board the vehicle in the video, and that the company has already fixed the issue by deploying a software update to its fleet.

TechCrunch asked Waymo for more information on the underlying logic behind this strange behavior and how engineers adjusted for such a unique scenario.

Videos of strange robotaxis behavior have become more common in the past year, especially in San Francisco, a hotbed of autonomous vehicle activity. For example, earlier this year, a woman set up a live stream showing Waymo cars to ring the bell all night in a parking lot near his apartment in San Francisco.
