Zayas – Spomer in the co-main event of Davis vs. Berinchyk’s WBO title fight card

Xander Zayas will reportedly face undefeated Slawa Spomer in the main support bout in a WBO 154-pound title eliminator on the Keyshawn Davis vs. Denys Berinchyk on Valentine’s Day, February 14 on ESPN at the Hula Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.

A win for 22-year-old Puerto Rico-born Xander Zayas would make him a must for WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora.

Zayas’ promoters, Top Rank, are targeting him to potentially take the WBO belt if it becomes vacant or if Fundora loses it in 2025 in his next fight. They are trying to make Zayas a star quickly like they are doing with Keyshawn. Pairing Zayas with a beatable Spomer is one way to make him look cool.

Keith Ideceports that Zayas vs. Spomer (20-0, 11 KOs) is being designated for the main support fight on the Davis vs. Berinchyk.

The little-known German Spomer, 32, has fought in near obscurity in his native Germany against second division opponents throughout his six-year professional career. His opponents have been largely unknown, and it is unclear why the World Boxing Organization has him ranked No. 11.

Zayas (20-0, 11 KOs) had hoped to fight on the Feb. 22 card in Riyadh after Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis turned down a fight against interim WBC junior middleweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. However, Israil Madrimov will be Ortiz Jr.’s opponent than Zayas.

In the main event, WBO number one lightweight contender Keyshawn Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) will challenge undefeated WBO 135-pound champion Denys Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) in the ESPN card.
