Best selling author Barbara Stcherbatcheff he was arrested for allegedly kidnapping her own son, 10-year-old Valentino, according to multiple reports.
Stcherbatcheff, 42, was arrested in the Bahamas on Tuesday, December 10, and appeared before a local judge days later after a preliminary arrest warrant was issued, a local newspaper reported. Nassau Guardian. Stcherbatcheff was subsequently jailed and is due back in court on Monday 16 December.
Valentin was reported missing in his native Switzerland. According to WatchmanStcherbatcheff lost custody in 2021 and was first charged with child abduction in February 2023. She allegedly failed to return Valentino to his father, Daniela Rene Stankowski, after a weeklong visit authorities said Daily Mail.
Valentin is currently listed as a missing person at Interpol websitewhich states that he disappeared from Zurich in February 2023 when he was 8. Since then, Valentin is suspected to have “probably” visited Croatia, the United States, Costa Rica, Belize, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Ireland and other undefined countries, according to the item. It is categorized as a “yellow flag” notification that covers several countries.
Stcherbatcheff who is author of American origin with British citizenship, is wanted in Switzerland on charges of kidnapping and stealing children. According to Daily MailStcherbatcheff was found in the Bahamas at a residence with her apparent boyfriend. (The outlet claimed she referred to herself as Barbara Murphy and had not used Stcherbatcheff for several years.)

Stcherbatcheff began her career as a journalist for London newspaper, covering the financial industry through its “City Girl” column. Stcherbatcheff wrote her newspaper column anonymously in 2008 and revealed her identity a year later. This experience later inspired her 2009 book Confessions of a City Girl.
