“The Survivor 47 finale offers a fantastic two-hour conclusion to a great season,” the longtime Survivor host, 63, said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly posted on Monday, December 16. “Including a dramatic showdown by fire and an actual battle at the final Tribal Council.”
During the penultimate episode of season 47, fans saw Rachel LaMont, Sam Phalen, Sue Smey and Teeny Chirichillo secured a place in the final four. While Rachel, 34, was frontrunner following Andy Rueda and Genevieve MushalukIn a recent elimination, Probst made a case for the chances of all the remaining players for the title of Sole Survivor.
“Any type of person can win. At the start of the season you would never have guessed it would be our last four because Survivors is changing moment by moment, day by day, and only those who can adapt quickly will survive,” he told the newspaper. “Rachel, Sue, Sam and Teeny have all faced obstacles this season, but they’ve each done a great job maneuvering their way out of trouble.”

Unlike previous seasons in the New Era, Survivor 47The final turned out differently format change. CBS announced in November that the finale would air in two parts — each running two hours. In previous seasons Survivors would conclude with a three-hour finale that includes the final voting of the season, the final four fire-making challenges, the final Tribal Council with jury questioning, and a post-match show taped immediately after the crowning of the winner.
Probst earlier set the record straight for why Survivor 47 decided to use the next episode to break up the final moments in the game.
“It really started with CBS asking us months before filming if it would be possible for Season 47 to do 14 episodes instead of 13,” Probst said on Thursday’s Dec. 12 episode of the series. “On Fire” podcast. “They had some things in their schedule that they wanted to try, and some of that work out would depend on whether we could do 14 episodes or not. So (Executive Producer) Matt (Van Wagonen) and I sat down and broke the final into parts and explored if and how we could pull it off.”
Probst acknowledged this Survivors has a large amount of “content” that they end up “not having enough time to show all the stories” they would like to show the audience.
“It actually really worked because we were able to emphasize things that we wouldn’t normally emphasize,” he explained. “And it was a great reminder for us that sometimes you have to step back and examine what you’re doing — just because you’ve always done it that way doesn’t mean it always has to stay that way.”
The Survivors the season 47 finale airs on CBS on Wednesday, December 18 at 8:00 PM ET and airs the following day on Paramount+.
