Brian Norman Jr. has revealed his 2025 target list, which includes IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis as his top target.
WBO 147-pound champion Norman Jr. (26-0, 20 KOs) could be willing to drop his asking price from $2.2 million to the $1.7 million that ‘Boots’ promoter ‘Ennis’ , Eddie Hearn, had recently offered him a fight in November. Eighth in Philadelphia.
Hearn was unwilling to increase his offer by $500,000, which was a mistake. Ennis’ stock plummeted after her poor performance in her rematch with Karen Chukhadzhian on November 8 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. In retrospect,
Hearn perhaps wishes he had come up with the extra $500,000 Norman Jr. wanted for the unification fight in Philadelphia. If the British promoter could do it again, it probably wouldn’t have been a Gilito McPato in the negotiations. Hearn must have thought that Jaron would pitch another shutout against Chukadzhian like he did in their previous fight on January 7, 2023.
He didn’t consider the possibility of Karen working on her power game and coming into the rematch fighting like a smaller version of Artur Beterbiev. He outslugged and outboxed Boots, making him look like a rookie. Ennis’ value has fallen off a cliff since that fight, and he is almost worthless. Karen was putting her hands on Ennis and he looked like a mini-Beterbiev. Hearn had to have punished himself for not closing the deal after seeing Jaron embarrass himself. .
What further dented his value was his turning down a fight against WBC interim 154-pound champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. for Turki Alalshikh’s Riyadh season card on February 22. That made Ennis look like a top chicken.
“2025 is my year. I have a whole list checked off. “I can see the goal, but I’m starting with Boots, that kid from Philly,” said Brian Norman Jr. in social networks. “I’m going to go here and get it over with. I have to make that happen before it goes to 154.
“After that, Teo is playing. He is playing. He’s thinking about going to 147. If you’re thinking about doing it, I’m here. If you want to fight at 140, I’m in the WBO. I’ll go down to 140 with you. It’s not a problem at all.
“That goes for all the other 140-pound champions, too. Anyone can get it. I just want that to be known. I’ve been silent for too long. That’s my mistake, but I’m getting tougher. Now is the time to take over this whole boxing game,” Norman Jr. said.
Norman Jr, 24, needs to return to the ring because he has not fought since he knocked out Giovani Santillán in the tenth round on May 18 at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California. I should have already fought.
