Tyson Fury says he won’t react with surprise if he beats Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch on Saturday night.
He claims he was “born a winner,” and a victory over unified heavyweight champion Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) would be no different from the other 34 wins he racked up during his 16-year career.
Hopefully he’s serious because he partied and ate like crazy after his upset victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. The Gypsy King skyrocketed to almost 400 pounds and remained outside the ring for two and a half years, celebrating.
For Fury to react that way, he didn’t think he was going to come out victorious, and he may have doubts that he will raise his hand against Usyk. In other words, when Fury speaks, he’s not being real.
“That’s what I do. I win. I was born a winner and I will die a winner. “A few wins in between don’t mean much to me,” Tyson Fury told Queensberry Promotions when asked what he would do if he beat Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday.
A checkered past
That loss Fury suffered against Usyk should have been number 3 on his resume and not the first, as his first fight with John McDermott on September 11, 2009 was clearly a gift decision, and his first fight against Deontay Wilder should having been a defeat by knockout. This was the one where Fury was knocked unconscious in the 12th minute and the referee gave him a count. The fight should have been stopped on the spot.
“I think Fury has it in him. This is his biggest fight, his comeback. You will never have a bigger fight coming back from a loss,” Gareth A. Davies told talkSport Boxing. “Muhammad Ali recovered from defeat to become heavyweight champion. Tyson Fury can do it.
“Fury didn’t keep his guard up enough, and he can do that in this fight. He also hurt Usyk in the body with uppercuts, over and over again. He will employ all of that. What Usyk will do differently this time. Who knows? He may move more and be more elusive, but it will be a fascinating game of chess and fist as they advance to round 13.
“I understand he’s in better condition,” Gareth said of Fury. “He had to deal with that cut over his right eye last camp, of course.”
Gareth’s Ali comparison was too much, even for him. If Fury had talent like that, he wouldn’t have any problems on Saturday against Usyk.
