Trinity Rodman “explained” that dad Dennis Rodman he’s not “present” in her life—but she’s finally ready to share the truth about their relationship.
“He’s not a dad,” 22-year-old Trinity explained during it “Call Her Daddy” interview. on Wednesday, December 18 “Perhaps with blood, but otherwise nothing.”
Dennis, 63, shares Trinity and son DJ, 23, with his ex-wife Michelle Moyer. (He’s also father to daughter Alexis, 36, with ex-wife Annie Bakes.)
“This is my opportunity to kind of speak more — I don’t want to say it negatively, but more realistically,” she explained. During the hour-long interview, the soccer star detailed how she grew up with the former NBA star as her father and where she is now.
“We tried to be that foundation and be good people around him. Because we never really asked for anything unless we really needed it,” Trinity said of her family. “We only want you. I think he never understood the reality for him because he never experienced it. …He never understood that people might just want to be around him and want to make him happy.”

The athlete said her father “thrown the party” during her childhood.
“We tried living with him, but they party 24/7. He brings random bitches here,” she said. “My mum didn’t want to – she was strong enough to deal with it because to this day I still believe my dad didn’t love anyone after my mum.”
Dennis married Moyer in 2003. According to Trinity, “her father’s demons were too strong” and she filed for divorce in 2004, but the marriage was divorced only in 2012.
“I think my mom just saw the situation: ‘We love each other. That won’t work,” said Trinity. “As for my kids, I can’t make them see you treat me like this, embarrass me and party all the time.”
Trinity has also been open about her father’s struggle with substance abuse. (Dennis openly discussed his fight against alcohol abuse and entered rehab several times.)
“He’s an alcoholic,” she said. “That’s something I don’t want to say, but I’m just like, f— it. It’s just true.”
At first, Trinity said her father was “less in our lives” as she and DJ were still growing up.
“We saw him once, twice, three times, four times a year,” she recalled. “Every time they were together it was the same—. My mom was valid and what the hell are you doing? Help us and help your children.”
As Trinity and DJ got older, they “understand the situation more” and saw Dennis “less” – even though they lived in the same town.
Trinity said she was “not ashamed” of how she grew up, but noted that it was a “struggle” because her family “didn’t have money” and lived in the affluent city of Newport. (Trinity revealed that they also lived in a car at one point.)
“Before the divorce, my dad was actually helping out with money. … He actually gave my mom money and let us live a little bit of life,” she recalled. “When the divorce happened, it was like, ‘F— you guys.’ … We get enough money to pay the rent, barely.”
At one point, Trinity said Dennis claimed they wanted to “use” him for money. In the meantime, he would not pay child support. (In 2012, Dennis was ordered to pay Moyer $500,000 in child support.)
“That’s what the fight was about, at least before us,” she continued. “It was just part of the money and helping your kids.
Despite what happened behind closed doors during her childhood, Trinity said she still publicly supports her father.
“That’s the crazy part, we kept going to those events like we were just a happy little family.” The dressing, the grooming, his (2011) Jersey Retirement, all the things we attended,” she said. “It was the weirdest thing because we did things for him and we always did things for him. He wanted to have a good idea of having his family with him.’
Elsewhere in the episode, Trinity spoke of her father as an “extremely selfish human being” who loves the limelight.
While Trinity played as rookie for the Washington SpiritDennis made a surprise appearance at one of his games. The incident resulted in Trinity sobbing after the game.
“I think it’s halfway through the first half and I hear (his voice),” she recalled. “I’m like, oh my god, like, there’s no way this is happening right now. Mind you, I haven’t seen or spoken to him in months.”
Trinity finished the first half of the game and spent halftime in tears. However, she returned to the field and scored the winning goal. After the game ended, Trinity was simply “mad” about the situation.
“I was like, ‘You took away this happy moment for me.’ Like you, you hit me over the head again,” she said, but finally fell into Dennis’s arms and cried. “I was crying and I was so happy. I thought, let’s take it positively. He’s here.”
After that day, Trinity did not hear from Dennis until this year. Trinity said her father had been “trying to reach out” for the past few weeks.
“I’m picking up the phone now for my conscience. If something happens, God forbid, I want to know I did it. Or if he needed to hear my voice before something happened,” she said. “That’s why I’m picking up the phone, not for me.
Trinity explained that Dennis has a different relationship with her than with her brother – who is also a basketball player.
“He treats me the best. I’m still his little princess and I can do no wrong. Growing up, he also treated my brother like…,” she recalled, adding that DJ has “trust” issues because of it.
