As he continues to watch the scene and lurk in the background, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs has once again issued a public challenge and placed the “Duck” tag on undefeated IBF Welterweight World Champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis .
Cobbs is a welterweight contender who is known more for his flamboyant personality than his in-ring accomplishments. However, Cobbs is a seasoned veteran looking for the opportunity to take part in a fight that could redefine his boxing career.
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs began his boxing journey by scoring 15 consecutive victories. In March 2022, Cobbs lost his unblemished record when he was stopped by Alexis Rocha in the ninth round.
Five months later, Cobbs would bounce back in a big way when he faced former WBO junior welterweight champion Maurice Hooker. In the first round, Cobbs landed a big right hand followed by a flurry of shots that sent Hooker to the canvas.
Hooker was able to get up, but Cobbs scored two additional knockdowns in the second round. Cobbs was in complete control of the match from start to finish, as he cruised to a unanimous decision victory by scores of 97-90, 97-90, and 96-91.
After Blair Cobbs put on a very impressive performance, Golden Boy Promotions dropped the ball as they did not keep Cobbs active. Blair “The Flair” would part ways with Golden Boy and get a fight against a former four-division champion.
During the build-up to his fight against Adrien “The Problem” Broner, Blair Cobbs was comical, confident, intense and focused. At the end of the final Broner vs Cobbs press conference, Blair Cobbs shouted: “This is my moment! This is my moment! Court!”
On fight night, Cobbs made an immediate statement when he hit Broner with a straight left that knocked out a tooth and sent the former four-division champion to the canvas. Broner was able to get up, but Cobbs dominated the rest of the fight and earned a unanimous decision victory.
Since his victory over Broner, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (17-1-1, 10 KOs) has put a fellow Philadelphia native on his radar. After witnessing Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs) defeat Karen Chukhadzhian at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Cobbs entered the post-fight press conference and explained why Ennis should fight him at continuation.
“We know the two options you want to choose, but there is still a third option,” Cobbs said. “That third option is the most exciting man in boxing, Blair “The Flair” fighting Jaron “Boots” Ennis in a big hit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, wow!
Promoter Eddie Hearn quickly chimed in while talking about the plan for Ennis to unify at 147 or fight a big name at 154. As time went on, the opportunity to unify never materialized, and recently, Ennis turned down the opportunity to face Vergil Ortiz at 154.
Because of the way things have developed for Jaron Ennis, his local rival is back on the scene, pushing for the chance to fight for the IBF welterweight title. During an interview with Fight Hub TV, Blair “The Flair” pleaded his case.
“You say, I want to go up to 154, and then someone calls your bluff at 154, and then you quickly change your mind to say I want to stay at 147, and you can’t unify these titles because everyone has a fight.”
Blair Cobbs went on to say, “Why don’t we make the fight with Blair “The Flair” a reality, where we can have a big attraction, a big excitement in the sport of boxing in the welterweight division with two fighters from Philadelphia. I have no idea what they’re doing besides crouching.
Blair Cobbs, 34, thinks Jaron Ennis, 27, is a duck looking for the easy road to success. At the moment, Jaron Ennis does not have a fight scheduled, and until he finds an opponent, Blair Cobbs plans to constantly apply pressure and try to secure that elusive title shot.
