Several children died in a crush at an amusement park in the southwestern Nigerian city of Ibadan, and many others were hospitalized.
The exact number of victims is unclear.
The event was advertised as free entry and attracted a large crowd, but so many people showed up that there was a crush as they fought for entry.
Residents said more than 5,000 children had gathered at the site and the rush occurred when the main organizers arrived to start the event.
The sequence of events that led to the falling in love has not been revealed.
The Oyo State government said the victims had been taken to hospitals across Ibadan for treatment following the crushing at the Basorun Islamic Secondary School.
He said there had been “multiple loss of life and injuries.”
Authorities have urged parents concerned about the whereabouts of their children to go to the city’s hospitals.
