Joe Amabile took a trip down memory lane with Dancing with the stars partner Jenna Johnson and admitted that not all their moments together were fun.
“Remember when I almost broke your neck?” Amabile, 38, asked Johnson, 30, on the Saturday, Dec. 16 episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast.
Johnson didn’t skip a beat, revealing that the near miss happened during the season 27 Halloween episode.
“I almost killed you. I swear on my life, she almost died,” Amabile told listeners. “It was crazy.
Looking back, Amabile remembered how she had messed up at the very end of their Frankenstein-themed Argentinian tango. After Johnson turned 180 degrees, her body tensed. Amabile could no longer extend her reach, so the professional dancer had to break her backflip and roll forward to avoid hitting her head.
“Honestly, Joe, that was your best dance and it was the finishing move. We only had one lift,” Johnson assured him, explaining, “He put his arm in the wrong place. I was about to do a backflip. I don’t know how I did it.”
Amabile noted that his arm jam “was the one thing I couldn’t do” in the routine or we would screw it up. “It was the only position I couldn’t lift her into,” he explained, teasing that he was warned, “Just don’t do that” before taking the stage and “I did.”
Johnson and Amabile were paired together for season 27 competition serieswhich aired in 2018. The duo was the eighth eliminated couple to leave the show after the semi-finals.
While Johnson seemed unfazed by her near-disastrous experience with Amabile, she revealed that she hoped she would in collaboration with a football player instead of another Bachelor Nation star after their time together.
Earlier this year, there were rumors that Johnson was unhappy with who she was paired with Bachelor alum Joey Graziadei via NFL players for season 33. (Danny Amendola joined the show as Whitney Carsonpartner.)
“I never had a footballer. I always am he wanted to be a partner with them, because they’re athletic again, they’re totally in place to coach them and yell at them,” she explained. “It’s a lot of hours. So they have the experience. And then they’re also usually big and strong enough to lift a girl all around.’
Amabile’s wife and cohost, Serena Pittteased that his mess just proved why the NFL player would be a great partner going forward.
“That’s why he wants a footballer,” Pitt, 27, joked. “He says they would never do that to me.
Johnson insisted her time with both Amabiles and Graziadei, 29, were just as funny, even though Amabile didn’t win. (Johnson and Graziadei won the Mirrorball trophy in November.)
“Our season was one of my favorite seasons,” Johnson said of Amabile. “Your dance experience was not the best. I made fun of you every day during rehearsal because you were so down.”
She blurted out, “We laughed so hard. I have a feeling because they were there no expectations about dancing we were like, ‘Let’s do it!'”
