Social media, news, blogs, etc. Tapestry, a new tracking app, will launch “in early 2025.”

A new program has been called Tapestry is nearing completion, promising to bring together social media, news and RSS in one place. designed by Iconfactorythe same team that created the third-party Twitter client Twitterific Back in the day, it was Tapestry presented at the beginning of the year as a tool that can better organize today’s fragmented online media, allowing users to follow their favorite blogs, news sites and social networks from a single app. This week, the company announced an update on Tapestry’s progress, saying it plans to officially release the app to the public “in early 2025.”

“Obviously, the sooner the better, but there are still some important things to do and bugs to iron out,” the project update said. Patreon page noted.

Instead of raising funds from outside investors, Iconfactory is crowdfunding Tapestry’s development. Over 3360 backers to date bailed north of $177,800 to run the program.

The app will appeal to people who are tired of trying to keep up with multiple websites, blogs and social media services by constantly opening new browser tabs and switching apps. It also capitalizes on users who are frustrated by the plethora of Twitter clones.

After Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, now called X, interest in new Twitter-like services, including apps, has increased. Mastodon and Blueskybuilt on open protocols and Meta topicsIt works to integrate with ActivityPub, the same protocol that powers Mastodon. (Like other small programs T2/Gravel, Postand Cohosthas since been closed.)

App developers believe that there is potential for new user experiences designed to browse these different services as a result of these experiences on a more open social network.

It’s not the only company thinking about it.

Along with Iconfactory, the developer behind the popular Mac and iOS news reader RiderSilvio Rizzi, reinvented its application Going beyond RSS to include support for other social services like Mastodon, Bluesky, YouTube, Reddit and others. Another indie app called Feeeeed also expanded this year to allow users to track RSS, newsletters, Mastodon, Tumblr, Reddit, etc. And this week, Feeeed also added support for Bluesky. Plus, an app called Openvibe lets you watch Mastodon, Bluesky, and Threads all in one place.

Despite their similar premises, each application offers a different user interface and experience. While Rider still looks like an RSS reader, the others look more like their social experiences.

Tapestry is interesting because it tries to straddle both worlds, allowing users to follow their favorite websites and blogs, even bulk import RSS feeds via an OPML file, while also connecting to various social sources. Today, the beta version of the app supports Mastodon and Bluesky, as well as webcomics, social apps like Reddit, Tumblr and YouTube, as well as weather and earthquake warning sources – events X is still often used to track.

However, Tapestry isn’t just about cramming everything into one interface. Its real power is to help people with social sites, websites, blogs, podcasts, and more. allowing you to create your own custom feeds (or “timelines”) where you can pick and choose sources like You can also use tools like “mute” and “muffle” from Twitterific to configure posts with certain keywords to be blocked completely or to be suppressed (shut down) when displayed.

There are also a number of other customization tools that will appeal to power users who like to build feeds.

However, one of the things that gets confusing with the current structure is that Tapestry divides sources (such as RSS feeds or social apps) into two parts called “feeds” and “connectors” – the first to populate your timeline with content, and the second to create other feeds on your timeline to fill. If you add some services like Mastodon and Bluesky, it can appear in both sections. We simply prefer a combined section called “sources”.

Still, it’s easy to see how you can use Tapestry to stay up-to-date with multiple social services as well as the latest news and new posts from your favorite sources as an alternative.

Iconfactory has yet to share an exact launch date for Tapestry, but the app will generate revenue through monthly and annual subscriptions.
