After a satisfying season of strategic play, brutal blindsides and effectively exploited advantages, the winner was crowned at Survivor 47.
Warning: Spoilers for the finale below Survivor 47.
Rachel LaMont defeat Sam Phalen and Sue Smey by a 7-1-0 vote after the three finalists presented their cases to the panel during the Wednesday, December 18, episode. The trio made it to the final three after Rachel, 34, won the final immunity challenge of the season, choosing Sam, 24, and Teeny Chirichillo face each other in a fiery challenge. Sam emerged victorious and progressed to the final three with Rachel and Sue, 59, leaving Teeny, 24, as the final member of the judging panel.
When explaining it Survivors On her way to the judging panel, Rachel highlighted her adaptability, competitive prowess and journey from “underdog to big dog”. The jury awarded her game with the title “sole survivor” and a prize of 1 million dollars.
Rachel will go down in history as the winner of what many fans have called the best Survivors season of the new era of the CBS show, which began with season 41 in 2021. Very few Survivors 47 players went through the game with blind loyalty to their original tribe members or allies, instead choosing to remain adaptable as the playing field changed dramatically from week to week.
“I think the fluid nature Survivors is here to stay,” host and executive producer Jeff Probst he said Procession on Tuesday, December 17, called the excitement of the 47th season “a direct reflection” of the casting decisions.
“Today’s player wants to win.” And to win, you have to play to win,” explained Probst, 63. “Playing to win means taking risks that could end your game. That’s the conundrum you face. But taking a cautious approach and just hoping you don’t get fired will never win the jury’s respect. So it’s a no-win proposition. In order for you to win, every other player must lose, including your closest ally.”
This season’s highly competitive game meant that several members of the judging panel – which consisted of Sierra Wright, Sol Yi, Gabe Ortiz, Kyle Ostwald, Caroline Vidmar, Andy Rueda, Genevieve Mushaluk and Teeny – should they make it to the bottom three, they should win strong cases. While the players were open about Genevieve, 33, being the player they beat before she was eliminated last week, several judges were impressed with Andy, 31, and Caroline, 28, when they learned more about their games at the Ponderosa.
“When (Caroline) came back to Ponderosa, she explained her game to me and I was blown away. Her level of detail, strategic acumen and self-awareness were all things I didn’t see (during the game) and that was intentional,” said Sol, 43. . Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday. “I call her Silencer because she sneaked into the game as part of many moves, but no one knew. She definitely could have won.”
Andy echoed the sentiment and said EW that he and Caroline spent hours discussing their games after they reunited at the Ponderosa.
“She is so intelligent and has played a game perfectly designed for a new era, but in a way that is also innovative and true to its strengths. She had the idea of actively building shields in front of her by subtly setting up conditions for them to get credit for the moves, knowing it would set them up for a knockdown,” Andy said of Caroline. “So when you see her seriously brainstorming with someone or cheering them on, that’s both her true self and her strategy, and I’m obsessed with that.” Her final Tribal Council speech would save the planet.”
Meanwhile, Gabe praised Andy for coming up with Operation Italy – a plan involving a fake immunity idol that saved Genevieve from elimination and led to Caroline blindly.
“The dump of information we got from him was overwhelming. His personality, his game, everything about the guy changed when we got to Ponderosa,” Gabe, 26, said.
Andy even impressed Rachel when he upped his game for her during the December 11 episode as he tried to win her jury vote. However, this move backfired as Andy did not know at the time that Rachel had a hidden immunity idol. Instead of selling out to the doomed player, Andy emphasized his threat level to that person with all his might, inadvertently convincing her to focus on him instead of Sam.
Rachel then blindsided everyone except her ally Sue with her hidden immunity idol and advanced to the final five while Andy was eliminated. In the next challenge, she won immunity, allowing her to target her biggest competitor, Genevieve, as she cruised to the final four.
