Ahead of the highly anticipated heavyweight rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk this Saturday, BeStreamWise is issuing a stark warning to viewers considering watching the fight via illegal streams: doing so could expose them to significant security risks.
As criminal networks increasingly control illegal streaming operations, viewers who turn to these streams may unknowingly put their personal data (and banking information) in the hands of scammers. In fact, research reveals that 1 in 3 (32%) people in the UK who stream content illegally have fallen victim to fraud, scams or identity theft as a result.
“Choosing to bypass official channels to watch the long-awaited Fury vs. Usyk Fighting this Saturday is not only risky: it is illegal and can expose you to serious danger,” warned Kieron Sharp, executive director of FACT, a BeStreamWise partner.
“Illegal streaming puts consumers at risk of malware, financial theft, and compromised personal data such as emails, photos, and browsing history. During high-view events, scammers target unsuspecting viewers.”
“BeStreamWise is dedicated to raising awareness about the significant dangers of illegal streaming, educating about the facts, and ensuring consumers know where to safely watch the content they love. “Boxing fans should enjoy the fight offered by official providers, rather than risk being the target of criminal operations.”
The warning comes after the recent conviction of a Liverpool man jailed for three years for selling illegal streaming devices, and with new clampdown planned against criminal organizations that facilitate these services.
