Luigi Mangione, the man accused of murdering the CEO of UnitedHealthcare Brian Thompson, will reportedly be housed in the same New York prison as Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Mangione, 26, arrived in New York from Pennsylvania on Thursday, Dec. 19, to be charged with federal murder. If convicted of the crime, he could face the death penalty.
According to CNN and ABC News, Mangione is now in federal custody and will be held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn — the same prison where Combs, 55, has been held since September.
Mangione and Combs also have another connection; pair share the same lawyer – Marc Agnifilo. Agnifilo appeared in federal court with his wife Karen Friedman Agnifilo to inform on Thursday Judge Katharine Parker that they will represent Mangione.
This was confirmed by the spokesperson of Friedman Agnifilo, Agnifilo Intrater LLP My Weekly on Monday, December 16, that she was retained to represent Mangione in New York. Friedman Agnifilo “will not be making any statements at this time,” a spokesman said Our.
Mangione was named the prime suspect in Thompson’s death earlier this month. Thompson was fatally shot outside a Manhattan hotel on December 4. After a five-day manhunt, Mangione was arrested on December 9.
A New York grand jury indicted Mangione on Tuesday, Dec. 17, on terrorism charges in addition to first-degree murder. He also faces charges of possession of weapons and forged instruments.
Federal Prison Counselor Sam Mangel previously explained Our what are the conditions at MDC with contraband and anything with sharp edges or pins being banned from the facility.
Visitor stays are usually 30 minutes long and are limited to four people at a time, while phone calls are limited to 15 minutes.
Mangel added that staff give inmates time in an enclosed recreation yard to play sports tournaments, and they are free to enjoy dominoes, chess and card games. Religious services are usually offered and televisions are on and tuned to major sporting events.
Mangione has been dominating the headlines in recent weeks, stating that it is a documentary already working. Filmmaker Stephen Robert Morsebest known for his work on Netflix Amanda Knoxthe project is developing.
Meanwhile, Combs has been behind bars since his arrest earlier this year.
In March 2024, several of Combs’ homes—including residences in Miami and Los Angeles—were raided by Homeland Security in connection with a sex-trafficking investigation. In September, Combs was arrested in New York and charged with sex trafficking, extortion and transportation for prostitution. He denied all the allegations against him. (His trial is scheduled to begin in May 2025.)
More than 20 civil lawsuits have been filed against Combs since his arrest, and he has denied all charges.
After Diddy was arrested, Agnifilo said during an appearance on CNN Source with Kaitlan Collins that his client is not guilty. “He is innocent,” Agnifilo said. “I believe he is innocent. I believe he is innocent of the charges,” he said. “He will go to court. And I believe he will win.”
