Shakur Stevenson says Gervonta Davis should have chosen WBA No. 3 lightweight contender Edwin De Los Santos as his March 1 opponent instead of super featherweight Lamont Roach.
Stevenson won’t say why he thinks WBA 135-pound champion Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) selected De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) as his next challenger, but it’s possible he wanted to see him fight against him.
When that happens, Shakur could argue that he is on the same level as Tank or better. Look at it this way: Gervonta was going to look poor against De Los Santos, which increases Shakur’s value because he looked terrible against him, running all over creation.

Gerovnta would be doing Stevenson’s dirty work by fighting De Los Santos, which would take the pressure off of him to give him a rematch after their fight last year. If Tank knocks out De Los Santos, it will give Shakur an excuse not to fight him again. It’s clever.
Shakur defeated De Los Santos unanimously over 12 rounds to capture the vacant WBC lightweight title more than a year ago, on November 16, 2023, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. De Los Santos has not fought since.

The most accurate score of the three was 115-113 because De Los Santos had been close to winning and probably would have if Shakur hadn’t been calling the entire fight. Shakur said he was fighting hurt, but he always fights like that, so his excuse didn’t hold up.
“I think the fight that should have been fought should have been Edwin De Los Santos. Tank,” Shakur Stevenson told Bet On Yourself in his YouTube channel, saying that Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis should have chosen highly ranked lightweight contender Edwin De Los Santos instead of selecting Lamont Roach Jr. from the super featherweight division.
“I respect Lamont Roach as a fighter and I think he will do well in the fight.
“I think Lamont Roach is a great fighter. I don’t think it’s going to be an easy night’s work for Tank. I think it’s going to be a tough fight, much tougher than people expect. I think people will be surprised how Lamont does in that fight.”
