Travis Kelce scored a touchdown during his game on Wednesday, December 25, breaking the Kansas City Chiefs major league record.
Wednesday’s landing of Kelce meant that the 35-year-old athlete beat him Tony Gonzalez‘s previously held the record for most touchdowns in a career. To celebrate, Kelce dunked the ball in tribute to Gonzalez himself.
“I’ve watched him since he was a rookie, and it doesn’t surprise me,” Gonzalez, 48, said during a November broadcast NFL on Prime Video. “He’s one of the greatest tight ends of all time. … If he dunks it, I’ll pay the fine!”
It is against NFL rules to throw the ball over the field goal, often resulting in a hefty fine for unsportsmanlike conduct. The league has not confirmed further details of the potential fine.
Kelce’s touchdown led the Chiefs to victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-10. Him and a teammate Patrick Mahomes they were named the official game MVPs and earned fluffy Santa-inspired gowns and a red velvet cake wrapped in the shape of a soccer ball.
In a postgame interview, Kelce revealed his milestone receiving record.
“It’s everything to me. Tony was a mentor to me, he was there for me (with every question I ever had),” gushed Kelce. “I feel like I’m still trying to fill this guy’s shoes.

He added: “He’s such an incredible competitor and I love him so much. It’s an honor to be in talks with him.”
Quarterback Mahomes, 29, also acknowledged Kelce’s performance.
“We have a lot of weapons there. We’re healthy at the right time,” Mahomes said. “The big guy leads us all, but we have guys everywhere. I’m trying to hold on as long as I can.”
The Chiefs’ win over the Steelers gives Missouri the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
“I thought it was a team performance. The defense stepped up, the offense stepped up (and) everybody had their stamp on the game,” Mahomes joked. “I told my pregnant wife (Brittany Mahomes) I was going to get seed no. 1 so we can have a baby.”
Patrick and Brittany, 29, are currently she is expecting her third baby. In a pregame interview Wednesday, Patrick told the sportscaster Kay Adams that his wife is due “any day now”.
Brittany, for her part, he did not travel to Pittsburgh on game day and instead watched an NFL game from home in KC with kids Sterling, 3, and Bronze, 21.
“Baking and watching daddy,” Brittany wrote via Instagram Story on Wednesday afternoon.
