The highly anticipated ABC spin-off 9-1-1 it’s in the works – but what is there to know about the show so far?
9-1-1 initially premiered on Fox in 2018 and introduced viewers to the professional and personal lives of Los Angeles emergency responders. A performance that played a major role Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman and Kenneth Choiremained in the network until 2023.
After Fox canceled 9-1-1, ABC caved and renewed show for its seventh season. 9-1-1 continued to be a success on ABC, but its first spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Starhe was not so lucky.
9-1-1: Lone Star followed a New York firefighter (played by Rob Lowe), who moved to Texas and struggled to balance his work and problems in his own life. Ronen Rubinstein, Sierra McClain, Jim Parrack, Natacha Karam, Brian Michael Smith, Rafael L. Silva, Julian Works and Gina Torres made up the rest of the cast.
until 2023 9-1-1: Lone Star was restored for its fifth and final season after remaining at Fox. However, the franchise continued to grow with co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear indicating another place that sets the scene for a new spinoff.

The series is currently in development, which means most details have not been released. Some of the potential locations are moving after the third iteration include Las Vegas or Hawaiias he states Period.
In October 2024, Murphy teased “fun” spinoff while talking to Varietysaid, “Tim Minear and I are working on a new spinoff that we’re actually writing and we’re hoping to get it on the air next fall. Unfortunately, we all love each other Lone starbut the finances just didn’t work out. It’s a Disney company that was on the Fox network and it never worked. And we had a long way to go.”
He continued: “So now we’re starting a new show in a new city that I can’t name but it’s fun. AND 9-1-1 moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday nights. They’re obviously into it, so we’re going to give them another one, which I really love.”
ABC is reportedly looking debut second 9-1-1 spinoff during the 2025-26 television season, more specifically in the fall of 2025.
“I don’t have any current plans for that,” Minear revealed TVLine in November 2024. “But it’s not impossible!”
