Serhii Bohachuk says his goal is to become undisputed at 154 following his sixth-round knockout victory over Ishmael Davis in the WBC title eliminator last Saturday night in Riyadh.
It could take some time for Bohachuk to achieve that goal, as he would need to book fights with these three champions:
– Sebastián Fundora: CMB and OMB
– Bakhram Murtazaliev: IBF
– Terence Crawford: WBA
It’s unlikely that Crawford will agree to fight Bohachuk unless he’s flush with money because he’s looking for the biggest payday against Canelo Alvarez at 168. He won’t want to risk his undefeated record after the fight he had against the former 154 champion. pounds from the WBA, Israel. Madrimov.
Bohachuk (25-2, 24 KOs) is in position to fight the winner of the Feb. 22 clash between interim WBC junior middleweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Israil Madrimov. If Vergil wins that fight, it would set up a rematch between him and Bohachuk. Turki Alalashikh might need to get involved to convince Ortiz Jr. (22-0, 21 KOs) to fight Serhii again.
Vergil Jr. beat Bohachuk by a controversial 12-round majority decision on August 10 of this past summer, and many fans believe it was a steal. Interestingly, Ortiz Jr. has shown no interest in fighting Bohachuk again after that bout. Some feel he doesn’t want to risk being hit.
“Bohachuk is a machine. This guy doesn’t stop punching. He moves forward and keeps hitting,” Teddy Atlas said in his YouTube channel, reacting to Serhii Bohacuk’s knockout victory over Ishmael Davis last Saturday night in Riyadh.
Bohachuk is now in charge. He just won the WBC title eliminator and he deserves it. Fans will agree with me; some thought he had won against Vergil Ortiz. I thought it was very close. I gave it to Ortiz. It was very close. Some people will say he got what he deserved now that he had another shot at a title.
His blows are direct and concise; They are on target. There is no fat involved. It’s hard to counterattack each other once he’s done because sometimes he just stands there for a split second. You can counter him right away or time him in the middle,” Atlas said of Bohachuk.
With the victory over Davis, Bohachuk is mandatory for the WBC for Sebastian Fundora’s belt. He is supposed to fight Errol Spence in the first half of 2025, but it remains to be seen if that fight will take place. If so, Bohachuk will be ready to face the winner or take the WBC belt if it becomes vacant.
“This guy (Bohachuk) doesn’t throw anything wide. He puts pressure, good pressure,” Atlas said. “You see a flame, but when you see a pure flame, you don’t see anything. You see blue. When you see another flame, you see red, orange. But when you see a pure, intense flame, sometimes it’s just blue. Bohachuk is a blue flame. There is nothing big.
“There is no orange. There is no red. That’s the difference between someone who just throws punches and someone who throws them the right way. In their fight, the blows are thrown in the right way. It has a blue flame. The fight (Bohachuk vs. Davis) was close the entire time. He dropped Davis in the second round with a left hook. He should be tied up as if he were handcuffed.
“It wasn’t a strong enough hold, and he (Bohachuk) broke free and threw a short left hook in, and knocked Davis down with that. He kept punching, and at the end of the sixth round, Davis’ corner did the right thing. They did the compassionate thing. They stopped the fight.
“He dropped it because they were actually holding on. You don’t see this very often. But when you manage to finish, everything in boxing is an art. There is an art to riveting. Davis didn’t tie him up quite right and Bohachuk broke free. There was still a little slack. “If you’re going to insure someone, there shouldn’t be any slack,” Atlas said.
Bohachuk wasn’t being held back when he dropped Davis in the second round with a left hook. The two were very close and Bohachuk connected with a left that he didn’t see.
Ok which of the fights did you like the most in 2024.
By the way, 2025 will be fireworks. Any opponent is welcome, but the goal is to achieve undisputed champion status. You can’t avoid me forever haha. @TomLoeffler1 come on!
