Lucasfilm is giving fans a gift two gifts this holiday season: new episodes Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. On the one hand, it’s great because most of us are at home and can watch. On the other hand, it will be a little less awesome write about the show for work and they don’t work on those days. So this week’s recap and next week’s recap will be a day late. We are sorry.
But we like to think of those days off as a trip to the planet Lanupa. A time and place to relax, rejuvenate and condition Skeleton Crewlook for a pirate nest like a straight thing Goonies. Let’s discuss episode five, “There’s Much To Learn About Pirates.”
At this point, we mostly know what we’re going to get Skeleton Crew. Each week the crew travels to a new planet to find a new clue that will help them return to Attin. And this week was no exception. After returning to the good side too easily for the droid SM-33, he reveals that Atty is hiding his location in his old boss’s warehouse. His name was Captain Tuck Rennod, a name that immediately ignited Jod’s imagination. According to him, Rennod was the most ruthless pirate, a man who killed his entire crew while searching for At Attin’s treasure. In Rennod’s secret lair beneath Skull Ridge Mountain, the crew can find their way home.
SM-33 remembers Skull Ridge Mountain on the planet Lanupa as a brutal place, but now it’s a luxury adults-only hotel and spa. Which is super weird Star Wars While also explaining how long ago Rennod’s adventure took place. Because let’s not forget, the guys found Rennod’s ship – finally officially confirmed as the Onyx Cinder. although Lego told us this months ago— He was buried under the earth with the death of all at Attin. After some goofy but good experiences at the hotel, Jod and the crew find themselves searching the underground spas of Lanupa for Rennod’s lair. We see all kinds of cool Star Wars aliens, including a very rude, very hungry Hutt. Jod also encounters a bounty hunter named Pokkit (Kelly Macdonald Brave and Train spotting) who knew Jod as “Dash Zentin”. This, of course, is at least his fourth nickname, which raises more red flags about the character. Pokkit calls in his favor and Jod’s former squad, led by Brutus, is dispatched to Lanupa. And so the race begins. Will the pirates find Jod and crew or will they find the lair?
Here it is Skeleton Crew went full Goonies. After befriending a giant squid-like creature called Cthallops, they find a booby trapped on a path through the ground that leads to the treasure. You know, like when the Goonies had to break through the floor and follow the booby trap path to the treasure. Both had skeletons on the ground, both had pools of liquid to wade through, both had anti-gravity spike chambers. No, wait, just Skeleton Crew there was But even so, there are many similarities, right down to the actual treasure itself, which is also trapped by the booby.
as Gooniesthe group finds that treasure room and it’s full of cool stuff. Wim even sees a real lightsaber. They soon access the dataport and 33 is able to locate Atty and Rennod’s note. He’s skinny, so we don’t get to see who he is, but a sneak peek shows a cowboy hat that gives off Cad Bane vibes. Rennod’s message also reveals what the treasure is in Attin: the last Old Republic mint. That is, you can earn money yourself. (Also note that Rennod’s performance in the credits goes to Colin Follenweider, Jude Law’s understudy. Could Jode be related to Rennod? We’ll see.)
This revelation changes everything for Jod. Closer than ever to the treasure, he challenges Fern for the title of captain. He tries to fight bravely, but his Force powers are too strong. Then, in what is shaping up to be one of the unforgettable Star Wars the hero moments, Wim pulls out his lightsaber. He is about to fulfill every dream and fantasy he has ever had. But when you ignite it, it turns upside down and flies away. Jod orders 33 to capture the crew, but they quickly escape as Jod grabs a lightsaber.
Our biggest buy Skeleton Crew episode five how much fun to have in this story. Yes, there are some moments of pause – for example, Wim is homesick and desperately tries to make something of his father, returning to Attin. But more than that, we love seeing this group travel the galaxy, solving puzzles, getting into trouble, and slowly unraveling this mystery. The mystery of why Atti is so hidden, what people actually do there, and who is this pirate Force user, Jod Na Nawood? And if that means we meet new aliens and bounty hunters on exciting new planets along the way? Better.
