Amanda Knox made surprise appearance at Peacock’s Laid down — but how did it happen?
During the season finale, which premiered earlier this month, Zosia MametAJ’s character, AJ, accidentally scores dinner with Knox, 37. AJ’s friend Ruby (Stephanie Hsu) surprised her in an attempt to patch things up after she slept with AJ’s on-again, off-again boyfriend.
“Your boyfriend said you always say, ‘If only I could have one hour with Amanda Knox,'” Knox told AJ. in the scene. “Well, I’m Amanda Knox and you have one hour.
Mamet, 36, broke down the scene, saying IndieWire December 21: “We kept the set very small that night because we didn’t want any spoilers and we wanted to respect Amanda’s privacy. It wasn’t unlike the scene we shot.’
The actress praised Knox’s involvement. “(Amanda) is amazing and so kind and so smart and so open about her experiences,” Mamet added. “It’s a force. He’s one of the strongest people I’ve ever met.”
After the full season aired on the Peacock, Knox offered a sneak peek at her cameo. “It was fun taking a break from courtroom drama to cameo and do a scene with @zosiamamet on this TV comedy,” she wrote on Instagram.
Knox was into the spotlight in 2007 when she was accused of murdering her roommate Meredith Kercher while studying abroad in Perugia, Italy. Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison after she and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito they were both convicted of the crime despite a lack of evidence.
An appeals court later found the former couple not guilty in 2011, but they were again found guilty three years later under a new process. The Italian Supreme Court acquitted Knox of Kercher’s murder in 2015 and she was acquitted.
a migrant from the Ivory Coast Rudy Guede was sentenced to 30 years in 2008 for Kercher’s murder after his DNA was identified at the crime scene. His sentence was later reduced and he was released from prison in November 2021.
During an interrogation in 2007, the then 20-year-old Knox accused her then boss Patrick Lumumba murders, leading to his arrest and two weeks in prison. Knox signed two police-prepared statements regarding the allegation before returning to the pleas.
The European Court of Human Rights ruled in 2023 that Knox’s rights had been violated during the interrogation that ultimately led to her indictment against Lumumba. As a result, the Italian Supreme Court ordered a retrial at the Court of Appeal level.
Knox was finally convicted again for libel June by the Italian court. She was originally convicted of libel in 2009 for falsely accusing Lumumba of Kercher’s murder, and an appeals court upheld that conviction nearly two decades after Kercher’s murder.
Knox, who shares two children with her husband Christopher Robinshe did not serve more time in prison, given the four years she had already spent behind bars after being wrongfully imprisoned for Kercher’s murder.
