Huge waves hit the Peruvian coast

Three quarters of all ports in Peru have been closed due to the huge waves hitting the coast.

Beaches are closed and fishing boats have been prevented from going out to sea as a safety measure.

The waves are being caused by persistent winds off the coast of the United States, according to the Chief of Hydrography and Navigation of the Peruvian Navy, Enrique Varea.
