Zhilei Zhang says a fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua “doesn’t mean much” at this point in their careers. It’s like, who cares? These guys are just fighting for cash in a meaningless fight. If Turki Al-Sheikh wanted to be tough, he would have Fury and Joshua earn their money by walking through fire first, both facing Martin Bakole.
Zhang points out that the two British heavyweights had talked about fighting years ago when they both had world titles, but now that they don’t, they are still talking. He sees Joshua-Fury as a fight that would only show who ONE of the UK’s best heavyweights is, not the best.
For the fights between Joshua and Fury to prove who is the best British heavyweight, they must defeat Daniel Dubois, Moses Itauma and Fabio Wardley.
It is doubtful that either of them can defeat those three young lions. Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) already failed in his fight against Dubois, being knocked out in the fifth round on September 21 in front of a horde of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London. It’s no surprise that Fury doesn’t want to mix with Dubois. He knows his limitations.
The only purpose behind Fury fighting Joshua is for cash. That’s all, just the dough. Neither of them needs extra money, but they won’t turn it down.
“Usyk is absolutely undisputable and I think he had a much better performance than in the first fight. I had it one-sided. I think he is the king of the heavyweight division,” Zhilei Zhang told Exit secondstalking about Oleksandr Usyk’s victory over Tyson Fury last week.
“I don’t think that fight means much in terms of belts and championships because that fight has been talked about for years,” Zhang said of a fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua. “When they both had belts, they talked about it. Now none of them have a belt and they still talk about it.
“I think it’s a good way to see who is one of the best heavyweights in the UK, but other than that I don’t see any meaning to that fight other than bragging,” Zhang said.
It’s not that Fury and Joshua are finished at this stage of their careers. They were just never as good as their fans thought they were. None of them beat solid fighters like Martin Bakole or Daniel Dubois during their careers.
AJ and Gypsy King took advantage of the weak opposition around them and were carefully matched by their promoters.
It would be better if Fury and Joshua beat someone first before meeting in their ‘Battle of Britain’ match in 2025, but they probably won’t bother. Their confidence levels should be at an all-time low and they won’t want to risk losing to someone else. Joshua has already had a lot of rebuilding fights and it didn’t help. Fury hasn’t beaten a talented fighter in years.
