Here are three tips from the organizational psychology professor and author of “Likeable Badass” Alison Fragale on how to set yourself up for success in 2025.

Identify your objectives

To start, start identifying what you would like to achieve in the new year, or even a few years from now.

“We want to look forward to a point where we want to achieve something,” Fragale says, adding that it may be that “you’ve created a product or started a mentoring program,” for example. example. Whatever you want to be able to include on your resume or what you would be proud of.

Then, you’ll want to work backwards from there and find some practical steps on how to do it. In 2025, those steps will help you make decisions when you review your to-do list, Fragale says. “When you can’t do everything, which of these things will drive me the most to achieve those goals?”

Identify ‘three to five relationships’ to help achieve them

Once you’ve figured out what you’d like to accomplish, identify “three to five relationships that will help you achieve that goal,” Fragale says. They can be people who have created similar products or held the position you want to achieve, who you believe can help you make that progress.

Then, “start thinking about how you can add value to their life in 2025,” he says. Can you help them with a project they are working on? Can you make a beneficial introduction? Can you share any new research that is relevant to your work? Helping them first can turn your relationship into something more substantial that can be reciprocated.

Try to communicate with them twice a year to maintain those relationships. That way, when they finally can help you, you’ll have made that connection and have a natural opportunity to ask.
