The worst performers of the show were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS :), which fell 2.64% or 16.30 points to trade at 601.10 at the close. Bharat Electronics Ltd (NS: ) declined 2.45% or 7.15 points to end at 284.90 and Trent Ltd (NS:) was down 2.30% or 163.95 points to 6,954.35.
Top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO: ) which rose 1.30% to 1,916.20, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO: ) which rose 1.16% to settle at 1,731.70 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:) gained 0.77% to close at 960.85.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO: ) which was down 1.94% to 736.00 in late trade, JSW Steel Ltd (BO: ) which lost 1.65% to settle at 898.00 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:) which was down 1.57%. to 3,258.40 in the end.
Decliners outnumbered advancers on the Indian National Stock Exchange at 1776 to 762 and 147 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2495 fell and 1433 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged.

Gold futures for January delivery fell 0.26% or 6.81 to $2,625.09 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodity trading, crude oil for February delivery fell 0.21% or 0.15 to hit $70.45 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.22% or 0.16 to trade at $73.63 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 85.52, while EUR/INR was down 0.06% to 89.26.
US Dollar Index Futures were down 0.09% at 107.70.
