Although Johnny Gaudreau he loved hockey, his family always came first.
The NHL player spent quality time with his wife off the ice, Meredithand their two children, Noah and Johnny.
However, tragedy struck the Gaudreau family when Johnny and his younger brother Matthew Gaudreau, they were killed while riding a bicycle in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, on August 29, 2024.
“Johnny was not only a great hockey player, but above all a loving father, son, brother and friend,” the Columbus Blue Jackets said. through X it was reported after his death. “Our sincere condolences to his wife Meredith, his children Noah and Johnny, his parents, their family and friends on the sudden deaths of Johnny and Matthew.”

Meredith Gaudreau
Johnny met his future wife, Meredith, in the summer of 2018 when she was an ICU delivery nurse. She supposedly lived next door to the hockey player’s off-season mansion in Avalon, New Jersey. After two years of dating, the couple got engaged.
On September 8, 2021, Meredith and Johnny officially became husband and wife when they were married in a church ceremony. “What a weekend!!” the groom wrote over Instagram after a celebration at Fairmount Water Works in Pennsylvania. “Great luck!!🤍🖤”
Meredith added“We are married! 9.4.21 until forever! love you so much @johngaudreau03 🖤🤍.”

During Johnny and Meredith’s marriage, the couple had two children. In September 2022, the couple officially became parents when Meredith gave birth to a baby girl named Noa Harper Gaudreau.
In February 2024, the couple expanded their family when Meredith gave birth to a boy named Johnny Edward Gaudreau. “I love you @johngaudreau03,” the mom wrote via Instagram from the hospital room. “2 under 2 lives here we comeeeee.”

Johnny’s death came just one day before he was due to be groomsman at his sister Katie’s wedding to her fiance. Devin Joyce in Philadelphia. (A few earlier documented attending the baptism for Johnny’s daughter Noa.) Johnny’s other sister Kristen has decided to be private on social media.

Johnny seemed to have an incredibly strong bond with his parents. When his father Guy found himself in the hospital, Johnny was by his side as he fought for recovery. “Craziest 72 hours of my life but my family is so blessed to bring my pops back home and he is on the road to a full recovery!” wrote over Instagram in March 2018. “Thank you for all the prayers and support from friends and family, from Jersey to Calgary! He is the strongest man I know! #blessed🙏”
Johnny also celebrated Mother’s Day by calling Jane “amazing woman”, which deserved the best mom award.
Hollywood in 2024 was mourning many celebrities. Speed Racer star Christian Oliver (born Christian Klepser) died at the age of 51 in a fatal plane crash on January 5. Johnny and his younger brother were both killed during the aforementioned bike ride. Matthew was married Madeline Gaudreau. His latest post on the social media platform was photos of the couple enjoying their 2022 honeymoon in Saint George, Grenada. “Without you, I wouldn’t be the man I am today,” he wrote to his wife Instagram. “I always love you.” Madeline welcomed her and Matthew first babyTripp, in December 2024.
