Matthew Gaudreauwife, Madeline Gaudreauwelcomed the couple’s first child following the tragic death of her husband in August.
“Tripp Matthew 🤍🦋,” Madeline wrote via Instagram on Sunday, December 29, welcoming a new baby. “Mommy and Daddy’s World.” Her post included a picture of Madeline holding the newborn’s tiny hand alongside a small sign that read, “He’s here.” She also tagged Matthew in the post.
Matthew and his brother, an NHL star Johnny Gaudreauthey were struck and killed by a suspected drunken driver while cycling near their hometown in New Jersey in August. Matthew was 29 and Johnny was 31.
Shortly after news broke of the brothers’ deaths, an online registry confirmed that Madeline was expecting her and Matthew’s first childdue on December 31 A A GoFundMe has been launched after the accident to raise money to support Madeline and their son Tripp.
In the days following the tragedy, Madeline shared numerous tributes to her late husband, whom she married in July 2021.
“I have no words. I just miss you. I don’t know my life without you. I have never experienced such pain,” she wrote on Instagram in August. “I am so blessed that you chose me as your wife (and) to love me. You’re the best thing for me.”
She continued, “I know you’re looking down with as much pain as I’m looking up. I will continue for you and our son. I love you so much, Matthew.”
In a subsequent Instagram Story post, Madeline wrote that Matthew was the “proudest” father-to-be and “I couldn’t wait to be a dad,” and added: “He never missed a meeting. I can’t wait to see you live through our son.”
Madeline described her relationship with Matthew as “the best 14 years of my life” in an Instagram post in September, commenting: “I can’t wait to see you again. I miss you so much.”
Later that month, Madeline he became emotional as he delivered his eulogy at the memorial event for Matěj.
“This past week I’ve felt like I’m trapped in a nightmare that I can’t wake up from,” she said. “I feel numb, angry, sad, blessed all at once. Some days the thought of this new reality is debilitating, but mostly I just miss Matt.”
Through tears, Madeline said she knew “Matt will be around his son for the rest of his life.”
“I’m so thankful that God gave us a child, little Matty, to run through life and carry on his legacy,” she said. “Tripp will know how much his father loved him and I promise to do all the things we talked about with him.
Madeline ended her speech by urging people not to drink and drive. “Call a ride. Please don’t subject another family to this torture,” she said.
johnny’s wife Meredith Gaudreaushe was also pregnant at the time of the accident. As Madeline prepared to welcome their third child, she vowed to support her sister-in-law.
“We will forever share this extreme heartbreak and terrible bond,” Madeline wrote via the medium Instagram in September. “However, boys could not choose stronger women as wives and mothers of their children. We’ll go through each season like guys would do for each other. They blessed us with children. Through them we will have a part of them on the earth side with us forever.”
