Chip-making giant Nvidia is leaning more towards robotics in 2025. More specifically, it is marketing a new generation of compact computers for humanoid robots called the Jetson Thor. the first half of the new yearThe Financial Times confirms.
Anticipated action is part of a developing action, a strategy that has been going on for years. Back in March, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang showed off a number of robots equipped with Nvidia chips at the company’s annual conference. Nvidia doesn’t plan to compete directly with manufacturers like Tesla, but rather “hundreds of thousandsRobotics vice president Deepu Talla told reporters in Tokyo last month that some of the world’s robot manufacturers with major OEMs.
Why now, Talla tells the FT, the change owes to two technological breakthroughs: the explosion of generative AI models and the ability to train robots using simulated environments.
What Nvidia isn’t saying, but it’s clear: its push into AI robots comes as major customers like Amazon and Google try to reduce the outfit’s reliance on AI chips by developing their own.
