The show must go on… but not every New Year’s Eve broadcast went smoothly Ryan Seacrest.
“We have three live countdowns on this show, which I never thought was even possible when I started,” Seacrest exclusively speaking My Weekly in December 2022. “But we have (broadcast) Puerto Rico, Times Square and New Orleans, and we’ve added another party on the West Coast. It will be LA because we always have Disneyland (part).
Seacrest has the helm Dick Clark is New Year’s Eve Rockin’ Eve since 2005, succeeding Clarke himself. (Clark he died in 2012.)
“I was a kid watching this show and watching other people do things that I get to do every day. Wanting to do it” American Idol host added to Our in 2022 taking over the reins. “And I feel like I have to prove every time that I’m worthy (of) doing it.” I think that’s also part of what’s exciting for me.”

While Seacrest has become one of the leading New Year’s Eve announcers, he’s not the only one ringing in the new year live from New York’s Times Square. Fellow TV hosts Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper emcee CNN programming just a few “blocks away”.
Cohen often went head-to-head with Seacrest’s illness Rockin’ Eve — but it’s all in jest. “(We’re trying to) have a good time and deliver that kind of fun,” Seacrest emphasized Our. “(Andy is) a really good friend.”

2010
Jenny McCarthy joined Seacrest’s Rockin’ Eve team in New York, starting a new tradition of kissing a handsome stranger in the crowd as the clock struck midnight. McCarthy continued her tradition until she married Donnie Wahlberg in 2014. Since then, Wahlberg has been her midnight kiss.
2015
After Taylor Swift performed during a live show, Seacrest gallantly let her borrow his jacket. However, Swift wasn’t sure what the host was doing. “Are you undressing? This is a family show. That’s inappropriate,” she joked at the time.
Seacrest later said Our that he lends Swift his coat caused technical problems.
“When I was with Taylor Swift one year, it was cold, so I gave her my coat after she was performing and I realized all my communication equipment was attached to it,” he said in 2022. “So I couldn’t I don’t really communicate with anyone in the production, which I hadn’t thought about before.’
2016
The next year, Seacrest got “stuck in an elevator” while trying to get to the legendary New Year’s Eve ball.
“It was a bit stressful because they tell you to stay calm and that’s almost impossible,” he recalled Our in 2022. “There are (other) things happening along the way that come together in the final seconds. (For example, performers who aren’t ready, but we’re trying to figure things out in the interim to make it look like we’re on schedule.”
2016
Mariah Carey closed Rockin’ Eve featuring a rendition of “Auld Lang Syne” and a medley of her greatest hits. Before stopping, she strode across the stage, took out her earpiece and snapped, “I’m trying to be a good sport here.” Carey later claimed there were technical difficulties.
Seacrest denied that Carey was being set up to fail.
“When it happened, it was hard for me to see and hear because we’re in Times Square and there was a lot going on,” said Cohen’s. Watch What Happens Live in January 2017. “Had to tell me something was going on and then try to find a monitor to respond to. So I wasn’t really sure what was going on.”
He added at the time: “That crew, that team, that staff is the best in the business. They put on the biggest live music events and they know what they’re doing. I know how good they are at their job. My reaction was, ‘She worked with the best.’ It’s hard for me to believe that they made such big mistakes.”
2020
Seacrest welcome Post by Malone as a special guest, later speculating that the rapper had been overlooked.
“Probably quite a lot (the stars were drunk on the show). I think Post Malone was definitely enjoying himself before he came out,” Seacrest theorized Entertainment Weekly in December 2022. “But it’s amazing, artists can still hit their hands, they can sing their songs while drinking.”
2020
When Cyndi Lauper performed a medley of her greatest hits, leaving fans thoroughly confused after her glam squad ran on stage to remove her scarf.
“I’m on camera, I’m on camera,” Lauper insisted.
2020
Later that night, Jennifer Lopez also took Rockin’ Eve stage to perform. Dressed in a silver jumpsuit, Lopez notably completed a knee slide at the end of her set, but she had too much power and crashed into the camera.
2021
Cohen and Seacrest’s New Year’s feud began in December 2021 when a drunken Cohen called Seacrest.
“If you look behind me, you’ll see Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers performing. I’m sorry, but if you’re watching ABC, you’re not watching anything,” Cohen joked Rockin’ Eve transmission.
Cohen since then apologized for his remarks with CNN banning him and Cooper from drinking on air.
2022
The next year, Seacrest claimed that Cohen deliberately ignored him during the performance.
“It was fun because my big scene was right in front of Anderson and Andy,” Seacrest said during the January 2023 episode. Living with Kelly and Ryan. “When I wasn’t working, I was trying to get their attention. … I just wanted to wave and say high. They have a great show. And Anderson (is) the best. He turns and says, ‘Good show.’ Very nice. Andy didn’t turn around.”
Cohen later claimed that He didn’t see Seacresthe said he “would” have waved had he noticed the interaction between Seacrest and Cooper.
2023
Resident of North Carolina Pamela Bradshaw won $1 million shortly after the clock struck midnight in the tournament Powerball drawing The first millionaire of the year — and her reaction instantly went viral. Bradshaw fell to the ground but quickly got up and turned to kiss Seacrest on stage as she continued to celebrate. Seacrest was confused but went on with the show like a pro.
“Thank God. I’m so blessed,” Bradshaw gushed, to which Seacrest replied, “I’m so happy for you.”
