There’s only one thing more violent than a mob killer in a mosh pit, and that’s a group of murderous henchmen ready to wreak havoc at a house party full of booze, drugs and a bunch of misfits trying to blow off some steam. Even though I’ve only taken a few elbows to the back of my head while trying to dive at a hardcore show (it’s fun, but not a lifestyle I’ve ever fully embraced), I can’t deny how much Kegger with straight edge is the movie version of a concussion while wearing a pair of Chuck Taylors, but a hell of a lot bloodier.
Writer/director Jason Zink may be about to begin his found-footage era with an upcoming release Looky-Loo, but Kegger with straight edge is the pinnacle of his current releases and is the perfect combination of guitar feedback and power chords that only escalate when the house party turns into Cleansing in the blink of an eye.
Survival Horror With An Edge
Kegger with straight edge it has all the makings of a perfect B-movie; the actors are unknown, the plot is simple, the gore is totally DIY, and it looks like Zink and company had a lot of fun putting it together after crowdfunding the entire project. Kegger with straight edge was made by punks, has an estimated budget of $40,000 for punks, and a soundtrack featuring bands like Uglybones (who gave a rousing performance during the opening sequence), Shannon and the Clams, xRepresentx, Noose, Sluts, Televised Suicide and Fritz. If you haven’t heard any of these bands before, you’ll be given a fair warning before the opening credits that “THIS MOVIE WOULD BE PLAYED LOUD.”
Old habits die hard
Kegger with straight edge features Brad (Cory Kays), a 20-something punk who embodies the straight-edge lifestyle; no smoking, no drinking, no drugs and a vow of celibacy. His group of like-minded friends, led by James (Julio Alexander), began attending shows in the area with pure intentions, wanting to keep skinheads and other hate groups away from kids who just want to see live music without the threat of unwanted violence. Brad, the most level-headed friend in the group, begins to distance himself from the straight lifestyle as James becomes increasingly aggressive towards anyone who dares to contradict his ethics.
To illustrate, James punched Uglybones lead singer Lev Ero in the face for simply singing a song called “Booze Hound” at the end of their set.
Fed up with James’ unwavering determination to be a total buzzkill, Brad seeks out Sean (Sean Jones), one of the neighborhood parties, so he can embark on a soul-searching journey. This unfettered self-exploration leads Sean to engage in some massive bending over (along with throwing up behind a dumpster) and realize that maybe it’s not so bad to let loose once in a while.
Punk Rock Meets The Purge
Enjoying his newfound love of a lifetime and partying after leaving his straight ways, Brad is invited to a kegger at one of the local punk houses where he meets his love Maybe (Evey Reidy) and the two instantly hit it off. eye. Everything is going great at first – the band is loud, the girls are playing Edward 40-hands, and Brad is taking it all in because every single aspect of young adult life he’s been deprived of up to this point is readily available to him. treat yourself
Before long, a group of masked aggressors (led by James) crash the party. The attackers, armed with stones, knives, crossbows and blinded by rage, use a jammer to disable all mobile phones and begin systematically murdering everyone in the house.
Caught in the middle of a house party with no access to outside help, Brad, Sean and Maybe realize they must fight the fire and reclaim the house before James and his goons claim more lives.
Self-confident B-movie Bloodbath
It takes a certain type of person to enjoy movies like this Kegger with straight edgeand I am definitely one of them. While I’m far from qualified to tell anyone what “real punk” is, I’m inclined to say that starting a passion project that’s so violent while still maintaining a sense of humor is about as punk rock as it gets. will get
If you have seen any of the films in Cleansing franchise, Kegger with straight edge it doesn’t really offer anything new. But if you’re already a fan of quick and dirty survival horror and want to see how a bunch of partying punks can handle themselves when the odds are against you, then you’ll find yourself diving off the couch before you even get to the second act.
