David Boreanaz in SEAL Team
Paul Arellano Spataro/Paramount+David Boreanaz he went from one long-running show to another almost three decades — and looking for a change.
“I’d probably stay away from a network show these days,” Boreanaz, 55, revealed TV Insider on Monday, December 30. “Just because of the time and the quantity that is ordered. It’s just a lot of work. (But there were still) some good things.”
Boreanaz latest project was The SEAL teamwhich ended in October after seven seasons. While he was ready to move on, Boreanaz didn’t know exactly what he wanted to do next.
“I’m not going to sit back and say, ‘That’s going to be the next thing,'” he noted. “I’ve got some really great fruits of labor that are paying off right now and will bring me some really nice opportunities in the new year. And I’m not going to sit back and say, ‘Well, this is the next series I’m going to do.'”
Boreanaz prefers what “makes sense” to him.
“Obviously, I’m in a very different part of my life and career. And I’m lucky enough to offer really great stuff and look at it very wisely in a mature way and take it for what it is,” he explained of how the television landscape has changed. “I think being able to take on maybe one or two different types of series would be an interesting venture.”

Warner Bros. The actor became famous after playing Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayerwhich debuted in 1997. After three seasons, Boreanaz scored a spinoff series and remained the lead Angel by 2004. Boreanaz immediately switched to Boneswhich ran on Fox from 2005 to 2017 before that The SEAL team came later that year.
“I expressed my interest in not doing the show anymore. I was done regardless, even if they wanted to do two more seasons, one more season, I was done,” Boreanaz recalled. TV Insider in August about how he was planning to leave before the seventh and final season. “So then the writers’ strike came (at the end of 2023) and it happened six months later and that was already decided.”
Citing “several” reasons he was ready to look forward, Boreanaz explained, “My body physically and mentally found a space that was in line with the character and knew it wasn’t going to continue. And I just felt like it was something that I was clear about, it made sense and it flowed naturally.”

“I have some really cool things coming up that I feel like would fit nicely into my game. But overall I can say that, let’s see, one, two, three are very different types of characters, that’s for sure,” he teased. “I can say that one is a really cool, passion project.
Boreanaz continued, “One is kind of similar, but not in character, and he’s kind of retired, but he’s getting hired now. That’s all I’ll say. I don’t want to say much because you know me. It’s like, hey, I’m living now and seeing what comes my way. I think people know that about me.”
