Exactly one year after she was released from prison, Gypsy Rose Blanchard became a mother.
Blanchard, 33, and her partner, Ken Urkergreeted the little girl by name Aurora on Saturday, December 28.
Urker announced it via Instagram on Wednesday, January 1. “Welcoming 2025 with the greatest gift of all 👼,” Urker shared alongside a photo of him, Blanchard and their new baby in the hospital.
The birth occurred in Blanchard’s home state of Louisiana. “Aurora is healthy and we are so happy,” Urker he said TMZ.
A year before her daughter’s arrival, Blanchard was released after serving nearly nine years in prison. In 2016, she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of her mother, Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard.
Nicholas GodejohnGypsy’s boyfriend at the time, conspired to kill Dee Dee with Gypsy, with Godejohn ultimately stabbing her to death. Godejohn pleaded guilty to first degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
DeeDee is widely believed to have suffered from Munchausen Syndrome, defined by the Cleveland Clinic as “a mental health condition in which you pretend that someone in your care is ill when they are not”. Throughout her childhood, Gypsy was believed to have various illnesses, including leukemia, muscular dystrophy and brain damage, and was told she needed a feeding tube and a wheelchair.
The saga was depicted in a 2017 documentary Mom dead and dearest and Hulu’s 2019 limited series Lawin which Gypsy was portrayed by the actress Joey King.
Gypsy and Urker were previously engaged in 2018 while she was still in prison, although the couple split a year later. Gypsy then got married Ryan Anderson when she was behind bars.
Shortly after being released in December 2023, Gypsy announced that she and Anderson had split. She officially filed for divorce from Anderson in March 2024.
Four months later, Gypsy announced she was pregnant.
“I know the rumors have been going around for a while and I’m happy to announce that I’m 11 weeks pregnant,” she said in a YouTube video at the time. “Ken and I are expecting our first child in January 2025.
Gypsy noted that the pregnancy was “not planned,” but said she and Urker “are both very excited to embark on this new journey of parenthood.
Before she announced her pregnancy, a gypsy exclusively speaking My Weekly how excited she was to start a family.
“I absolutely want kids someday,” she told Us in May 2024. “I think I’ll be a good mother. I think Ken would be a great father, so we’ll see what the future holds for us.”
