The Full house star, 61, shared an emotional post via his Instagram on Wednesday, Jan. 1, as he reflected on “love, loss and growth.”
“Happy New Year!” he began in the long post title. “As the calendar turns, I find myself reflecting on a year full of love, loss and growth. The past year has been one of the most transformative of my life. I experienced moments of immense gratitude, deep sadness, and a clarity that only comes when you truly let life happen as it is.”
The caption was accompanied by a photo of Stamos with his wife Caitlin McHugh38, which he married in 2018and their son Billy, 6.
Both Caitlin and Billy were the first to be reviewed in a reflective Instagram post.
“To Caitlin and Billy – you are my heart. Every morning we spent cuddling and laughing together is a memory I will hold close forever,” Stamos wrote. “You remind me daily that the simplest moments are often the most meaningful.”
Stamos also referenced his Full house costar, Dave Coulier, and his ongoing battle with cancertag him in the caption and on the photo itself.
“@dcoulier you got it!” Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse opposite Coulier’s Uncle Joey on the popular 1990s sitcom, wrote.
Coulier, 65, was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in October. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a form of cancer that attacks the body’s lymphatic system and affects “white blood cells called lymphocytes (which) grow abnormally and can form growths (tumors) in throughout the body,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
The actor also touched on the loss of a childhood friend Mike Owenwho has been best friends with Stamos since they were 11 years old. Owen died of a heart attack in November.
“To Mike, my oldest and dearest friend we lost this year – you will forever be my silent Obi-Wan, guiding me with your silent strength.” Losing you has left a hole in my life, but I carry your light forward in everything I do,” Stamos wrote.
Stamos went on to recall his achievements in sobriety in 2024 and expressed that he is looking forward to the future.
“I celebrated getting sober again this year and it’s something I’m deeply proud of. This year has been a fresh start for me and I am so grateful for the second chances life offers when you choose to show up,” he wrote. “I’m excited about what lies ahead – new projects, new stories and new ways to create and connect. But for now, I hold on to the peace, laughter and love in these moments with my family.”
He concluded: “To all who read this: May the new year bring you kindness, courage and the peace of knowing that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
