While the group opted for a quiet holiday this year, they previously celebrated Christmas by skiing together in December 2023. “Merry Christmas to everyone, from our family to yours❤️,” Ella captioned Image on Instagram himself, his father and brother at a ski resort, which Travolta also shared on his profile.
At that time, they followed up the winter sports activity by dressing up for a classy New Year’s celebration. “Happy New Year!! Thank you for always being there for us! Love John Ella and Ben!” Travolta wrote next to an Instagram montage of New Year’s photos and video, which included a clip of Ella dancing in front of a large Christmas tree in a little black dress.
Travolta’s late wife, Kelly Preston, died of breast cancer aged 57 in July 2020. In addition to Ella and Jack, the couple, who married in 1991, also shared a son, Jett, who died aged 16 in 2009 after suffering a seizure while on a family holiday in the Bahamas.
Earlier this year, Ella paid tribute to Preston in the song “Little Bird” from her debut EP, Colors of love. “(My mother’s death) was definitely something I wanted to communicate and obviously thought about for many years,” she said during a Nov. 8 appearance on the Third Hour Today. “I think it’s different for every person when they go through a loss. But for me personally, it was just this pure message that I wanted to give to my mom.”
The song’s music video featured home videos of himself and Preston with their family over the years. “There was a lot of crying, but they were happy tears,” Ella said of gathering footage for the video. “And I also wanted it to be a celebration of her life because those are all the best and happiest moments.” And that’s how I remember her.”
The EP was a family affair, with Travolta serving as producer on the project. “I love working with my dad. If I could always do it, I would,” Ella blurted out. “He’s amazing and he’s so protective because he’s been in the film and music industry forever, so he knows how to protect me in that sense.”
