Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun explore romance as AI-powered machines learn emotions in their new film, love me.
The film, which opens in theaters on Friday, January 31, follows a buoy (Stewart) and a satellite (Yeun) who inherit the Earth after the extinction of humanity. With only the Internet as their guide, the two learn what it means to be alive—and in love.
The trailer, released by Bleecker Street on Wednesday, Jan. 1, shows Stewart’s buoy floating in the ocean as he goes online and begins to learn about what it means to be a “human being.” Buoy comes across internet videos of a beautiful woman, also played by Stewart, and decides to transform himself into her image. He then connects with Yeun’s satellite in the sky and offers to become “friends”.
“We could be friends! Choose a face. What do you think of this face?” the satellite buoy asks as it lands on Yeun’s image. The duo then create a universe that exists in human bodies.
“How does it feel to be alive?” Yeun reflects as she and Stewart kiss, eat ice cream, and learn their new faces. “Have you ever thought how amazing it is that we found each other?” asks Stewart as flashes of life’s milestones — like dating, pregnancy and childbirth — flash across the screen.

“We become who we are,” adds Yeun. “I want to be us.”
Love Me had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024, where it was awarded the festival’s Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Award, an award given to an outstanding science and technology title.
Stewart received the Visionary Award at the event. While accepting the award, the actress opened up about why she is drawn to it love mewhich dares to “jump down the throat of identity”.
“Every five minutes we can just flip over and the prevailing echo (is) if we were to breathe the internet, if we all died right now and our footprint was this echo of difference, be proud of it,” she explained. “Like, love me. We just want to say, ‘Can you see me? what am i am i something Am I different? I don’t know. Am I worth loving? I don’t know.’ It’s a film about identity and how every 30 seconds, every split second, just the words attached to it, the kind of feelings and images associated with identity change. It’s always changing.”
