During an interview with KOIN News on Tuesday before his team’s Rose Bowl matchup against Ohio StateGabriel described his ideal vision of the conditions in which his games should be played and questioned the notion of playing in the snow and rain.
“We love warm weather. I think we should play more football on nice grass instead of artificial grass. And the more sun, the better. Why do we do it to ourselves? Do fans want to sit in the snow and rain? ” Gabriel said. “Let’s just make arenas. Let’s make domes. Let’s make grass. Let’s make more fireworks at games.”

Gabriel did not even rule out supporting the premise that all college football games be played in Hawaii.
“I don’t think anyone would be mad about it,” Gabriel, a Hawaii native, said of the idea. “Let’s look for more sun.”
Gabriel, who is finishing his sixth season of college football, has been one of the top quarterbacks this season. Gabriel was named a first-team All-American, Big 10 MVP, and Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year in 2024. The quarterback began his career at the University of Central Florida, where he played for three years before heading to Norman to play in the Sooners in Oklahoma.
In December, with one year of eligibility remaining, Gabriel decided to head to the Pacific Northwest to play for the Oregon Ducks.

“Being the third conference I’ve played in, I think it’s great in that aspect. I’ve played in a lot of different places and I feel like that’s what football is about. I’ve had the privilege of playing in there. There’s a lot of different environments and it’s been been very exciting. The more, the better.
