Telegram has released its first update of the year, adding a new account verification method supported by third parties, new message search filters, and the ability to convert gifts into NFTs.
It was already in the chat program software to check public figures and organizations on the platform, and it has launched a new project to allow already approved third-party bodies, such as food quality regulators or educational consortia, to verify the account.
Third-party verified accounts will have a new logo instead of the blue icon next to their names.
“For added verification, this decentralized platform will help prevent fraud and reduce misinformation with a unique proactive solution that sets a new security standard for social platforms,” Telegram said in a blog post.
People or organizations wishing to be approved must first pass an inspection and fill out an application to be eligible to receive an approved badge. Telegram said organizations can use its Bot API to set or remove verification — somewhat similar to organizations buying verification on X and verifying their linked accounts. These will be linked accounts logo of the organization in the profile after they are checked.
Telegram also launched a way to convert gifts into NFTs with custom backgrounds and icons. Users can send gifts by spending Telegram Stars, which can be purchased through or through the app Fragment site By connecting TONs of crypto wallets.
Telegram said users will be able to trade these NFTs on various platforms. Note that Telegram requires users to upgrade their gifts to collectibles to cover blockchain transaction costs.
Telegram used cryptocurrencies creator monetization as well as for payments on the platform for games and mini-programs.
The company also introduced an emoji reaction feature for service messages, like someone joining a group, and new search filters for private chats, group chats, and channels.
