The dynasty of defaulters Visits to Westeros continued in 2024. After a six-year run from 2012-2017 Game of Thrones was the most pirated show on the internet, its successor Dragon House In 2022, the suspect regained the title and now, once moreIt heads the list in 2024.
The news is coming TorrentFreaknotes that the rankings are based on traffic from BitTorrent. That’s a solid figure, but only a small fraction of the actual number of things pirated from other sites—obviously—doesn’t report the number of views. Plus, this list doesn’t include most anime shows, which probably skews the rankings a bit. Nevertheless, this list.
A few things here. Pay for your shows first. We don’t condone piracy and think that if people are going to put in the time and effort to make great stuff for you, you should thank them by getting it legally. However, we understand that piracy is a fact of life these days and something that many people do on a regular basis. We also find a few interesting things about this list. For example, this is typical of genres, not just this year, but most years. This clearly speaks to a certain type of fan who pirates TV shows. Science fiction, fantasy, superheroes, video games, and more. a loving one.
It’s also interesting to think about where the shows came from. TorrentFreak notes that Netflix had no shows on the list in 2023, but this year Hidden. Because Netflix has such a large market share of broadcasters, it was thought that it would be less vulnerable to piracy, but that is clearly not the case. Maybe there wasn’t a show last year that internet hackers were interested in. We would venture a guess Squid Game back now Stranger Things will return and more, 2025 will see Netflix more consistently there.
The list also speaks to some extent about what services people do not pay for. Prime Video leads wildly with three shows. Just because it comes with other benefits like Prime shipping on Amazon, you’d expect it to be one that most people have. HBO has two shows, and while pirates certainly won’t pay for cable, perhaps they will for Max, its slightly cheaper streaming service. Then of course there’s the Apple TV+ and Paramount+, both of which make more sense because they’re certainly smaller in comparison. It’s a lot to digest.
