False bomb threat from alleged illegal immigrant shuts down SC highway


A suspected illegal immigrant was arrested in South Carolina Thursday after authorities said he made a false bomb threat during a traffic stop that ultimately led to the closure of a section of Interstate 85 for nearly five hours.

Ahmad Jamal Khamees Alhendi, 28, was stopped around 2:45 p.m. by state transportation police for a missing license plate on the trailer of his truck, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS).

It was then that Alhendi told a police officer that there was an explosive device inside the commercial vehicle.
