Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede recently declared his intentions for the island’s future, stating that it is “necessary” to take major steps toward independence from Denmark.
Egede’s comments, which follow a December 22 post in Truth Social of President-elect Donald Trump advocating “ownership and control” of Greenland, focusing on the basis for secession from Denmark.
“The next new electoral period must create, together with citizens, these new steps, based on the bases already created,” said Egede. “It is high time for us ourselves to step up and shape our future, also in terms of who we will cooperate closely with and who will be our business partners.”
Trump attempted in his first term to purchase the geographically important and mineral-rich territory in what he called a “massive real estate deal.” Fox News Digital previously reported.
