The horrific New Year’s Day terrorist attack in New Orleans It left more than a dozen dead and even more injured after the now-deceased suspect, identified by authorities as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, ran a vehicle into people and opened fire.
While speaking to NBC News from a hospital bed, Jeremi Sensky, one of the survivors, recalled lying on the floor and seeing the parts of his wheelchair next to him.
He said he assumes he was hit by the truck.

Sensky, who told the outlet he has been paralyzed since 1999, said his “wheelchair was completely destroyed” with pieces scattered.
“Then something hit me,” he said.
While he told ABC News that he had broken bones in both legs, he also said he feels “lucky.”
“I’m alive,” he noted.

Dr. Jeffrey Elder of the University Medical Center in New Orleans told CNN that most patients at the center had suffered “blunt trauma,” while some patients had suffered gunshot wounds.
During an appearance on NewsNation’s “Banfield,” survivor Paige Bryan recalled seeing people hit by the vehicle and described the experience as “very, very, very traumatic.”

President joe biden and first lady Jill Biden are scheduled to travel to New Orleans on Monday, where they will “grieve with families and community members affected by the tragic January 1 attack and meet with officials on the ground,” according to the White House.
