Bandai wants Gundam to take over Desktop Wargaming


For years Gundam franchise anime, video games, and especially have consistently existed weapon sets. Other the main show isn’t the only new thing coming to the popular mecha franchise – Bandai is taking the venture into the world of board games.

The company made the announcement during this weekend’s Bandai Card Games Fest Gundam assembly, a board game that sees players use 5cm figures to play out various wargame scenarios. Some are internally based is collected original story, the others “transcend” the franchise, but the overall goal is that they are both familiar and different. Coming out of the box unpainted, the game’s starter figures each have their own individual abilities and range from the original to regional favorites (Wing and Seed) and the last large series, Witch from Mercury. Initially, these numbers:

  • RX-78-2 gun
  • MS-06S ZAKU Ⅱ
  • WING GUNDAM ZERO EW
  • GUNDAM AERIAL
  • KAPOOL
  • ARCHANEL

It’s a whole new realm for board gaming Gundam last year, the collection was expanded with an animated version of the trading card game. It will be a Gundam-heavy month, actually: the North American beta of that game at the end of the month (before full launch in 2025), along with upcoming episodes Gundam: GQuuuuX the anime will be released in Japanese theaters on January 17th. The first model in this series is based on a cool looking mobile suit. also hits sometime this month.

That’s all Gundam assembly? Bandai Namco has yet to announce a date for this, but said it expects more information such as pricing, regulations and product features later in the year.
