Teófimo López published today in X, asking his promoters at Top Rank what their “buys” The number is so you can get out of the rest of your contract.
Why this sudden burst of energy from López asking his promoters for the purchase number? I could see free agent Devin Haney fighting on BLK Prime on March 25 and probably making a lot of money. Teo may want to participate.
As a free agent, Lopez could be signed by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom, or he could choose to follow Haney’s strategy of remaining in that capacity.
WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo (21-1-1, 13 KOs) seems to believe he will have bigger fights once he leaves Top Rank, but it is questionable if that will happen. Teo’s loss to George Kambosos Jr. and controversial victories over Jamaine Ortiz and Sandor Martin showed that he is a limited fighter.
How come López doesn’t know his termination number? Your manager should be able to give you this information. Top Rank has done a man’s job with Teofimo during his career. It’s not his fault he’s looked so poor since his career-big win against Vasily Lomachenko in 2020.
Teofimo is currently expected to fight former IBF light welterweight champion Subriel Matías on March 15 in a non-PPV event on ESPN. There’s a good chance Lopez will lose that fight, as he looked terrible against Jamaine, Sandor and Steve Claggett.
Hey, @trboxing What is my purchase? Just one question 🧐 Also, I would respect it if you answered here and not around the corner. Thank you and have a blessed first Sunday ☀️ of the new year! #Boxing
