It was only a matter of time before robotic vacuum cleaners reached a new stage of evolution. Over the years, they became faster, smarter and even managed to climb. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that we’ll see someone at CES 2025 that can sprout a fingernail arm for cleaning duties.
The Roborock Saros Z70 is a robot vacuum cleaner with a foldable arm inside the chassis. The “OmniGrip” mechanical arm can be extended and folded to pick up small items or pieces of debris and drop them into the designated area.
The Saros Z70 will perform a regular cleaning procedure and record what it can pick up. Once the initial cleaning is complete, it will return to pick up and carry the item. If you’re impatient, you can control the lever yourself via the app. A camera inside the arm makes it easy to pick up objects and gives it a fun carnival game feel.
The arm itself can only take items up to 300 grams. In an in-person demo, we saw the Saros Z70 attempt to pick up gathered socks to mixed results. Roborock said during the launch that the bot was using older software; the claw arm struggled to pick up the loose sock on the first few tries and even refused to come out of its compartment during one test run, requiring a handful of hard resets.
As you can see from the video, the AI robot vacuum cleaner takes a long time to pick up and replace the sock. However, if you’re running it overnight or while you’re away, it’s probably not that big of a deal. In addition to socks, the Saros Z70 should be able to handle small toys, towels and slippers and put them where they belong.
Roborock says the Saros Z70 detects up to 108 items using machine learning. The app lets you identify and tag up to 50 individual objects in your home. All data is stored on the device, never in the cloud.
Aside from being able to pick up your trash, the Saros Z70 offers everything you’d expect from a high-end robot vacuum cleaner. It sweeps, cleans corners and has a quick power dock. It will also work with smart home ecosystems such as Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
The Roborock Saros Z70 will be available later this year. Prices have not yet been announced.
