Aubrey Plaza is on everyone’s mind as actors pay tribute to her husband, Jeff Brothersafter the director’s shocking death.
Baen’s friend and long-time collaborator Adam Pally shared an emotional statement on Instagram on Sunday, Jan. 5, which read: “He was a talented director with impeccable taste and vision, a connector of people, a nurturer of possibilities, a guy who knew where the best restaurant was, no matter where you were. An overly gracious host with an almost disturbing open door policy, a film encyclopedia and, most of all, a friend to me.”
Pally, 42, who worked with Baena on Life after Beth, Joshy and Small hoursrecalled how the filmmaker “sought the truth” and that “nothing could sound, look or feel inauthentic” because it was a “direct representation” of how authentic Baena was.
“You never worried that Jeff didn’t tell you how it was. Because Jeff’s virtue told you how it was,” Pally continued. “My heart goes out to my friend Aubrey and the Baen family and to all of us who spent time on his sets, in his home or in his orbit. Thanks for believing in me Jeff, may your memory be a blessing.”
Celebrities are speaking out and expressing their grief and support for Aubrey Plaza following the untimely death of her husband Jeff Baena. “No words can touch this painful time,” actress Selma Blair wrote in Plaza’s latest Instagram post on Saturday, Jan. 4. “Just love, strength and support from everyone. In the comments section, Jeff’s brother, Brad Baenahe replied, “I’m broken.” My Weekly confirmed on Saturday, January 4 that Jeff had died by suicide at the age of 47. Jeff was an independent director known for projects such as I Heart Huckabees, Life After Beth, The Little Hours, Horse Girl and Spin me.
Jeff often collaborated with his wife, whom he began dating in 2011 and married almost ten years later.
“My first film was a great experience on all fronts, so working with her was beneficial because we have a shorthand and a close relationship,” Baena said of the 40-year-old Plaza in an August 2022 interview. Newsweek. “As I’ve made more and more things, I’ve come to appreciate all that it brings.”
The brothers praised the Plaza’s dedication to your craftadding: “She’s insanely talented and so smart and obviously really good at producing. And she writes. Very few people can wear as many hats as she does, as elegantly as she does.’
He continued, “People generally call her the best part of any project she’s in. She is insanely talented and I am very lucky to have her in my life.”
Meanwhile, the Plaza, previously discussed have a partner in the same industry.
“I think when you’re with someone who’s in your field, they understand what you’re dealing with on a deeper level. So obviously you’re able to support each other and really understand the kind of journey that we’re both on,” she told People in 2019. “So I think that can be really cool. But you know, working with a partner can always be challenging. There are a lot of things that we do separately and I think it’s all about balance.”
The actress said it he enjoyed his journey to work next to Jeff. “I think one of the great things about our careers is that we’re forced to be independent, to take little breaks, to go away and do our own thing and come back,” she noted. “So it’s pretty fun. Nothing is ever the same. You don’t want to spend too much time apart. But I think there’s a way it can work, and there’s a balance to it.”
