Scheduled presenter Aubrey Plaza did not attend the 2025 Golden Globe Awards.
Plaza was missing after her husband’s death, Jeff Brothers. Although she was not present at Sunday’s awards ceremony, love sent her on her way Brutalist director Brady Corbett the couple mentioned in his acceptance speech.

Aubrey Plaza is scheduled to emcee on Golden Globes 2025 on Sunday, January 5.
Plaza, 40, was he announced as one of more than 40 presenters at the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards on Thursday, January 2. The show will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
One day after Plaza was announced as the host, her husband Jeff Brothers was found dead at their Los Angeles residence on Friday, January 3rd. My Weekly an independent screenwriter later confirmed he died by suicide. He was 47.
As of this writing, Plaza is still listed as the host of the Golden Globes. Our reached out to Plaza’s representatives for comment about her involvement, but did not hear back.
Plaza has not yet publicly commented on her husband’s death. The pair, who have kept their relationship mostly private, started dating in 2011 and have been together for almost a decade before tying the knot in 2020.
“A lot of things happened for me during COVID. Yes, we got married. Big deal,” Plaza said of her and Baena’s wedding during a December 2021 appearance The Ellen Degeneres Show. “We were a little bored one night. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. That’s right, look at it.”
The Agatha all the time alum added, “I created a very quick altar of love in our yard. The facts of our love, stones, smoke, fire. Things of that nature. Then a man from the Alhambra appeared in a Hawaiian shirt with a briefcase (to perform the ceremony). … I don’t remember much, it was a blur. But I’m pretty sure it’s legal.”
While Baena and Plaza each had their own solo careers, they had several opportunities to collaborate on many projects such as Life After Beth, The Little Hours and Spin me.
“My first film was a great experience on all fronts and so on working with her was a benefit because we have a shortcut and a close relationship,” Baena said of his wife in an August 2022 interview Newsweek.
“As I’ve done more and more things, I’ve come to appreciate everything it brings,” the late filmmaker continued. “She’s insanely talented and so smart and obviously really good at producing. And she writes. Very few people can wear as many hats as she does, as elegantly as she does.’
At the time, Baena further gushed over his wife, saying, “Everything she does is amazing,” adding, “People generally call her the best part of any project she’s in.”
He concluded, “She’s insanely talented and I’m very lucky to have her in my life.”
