Brutalist Director Supports Aubrey Plaza After Jeff Baena’s Death

Aubrey Plaza got support on Golden Globes 2025 after her husband Jeff Brothersshocking death.

Brutalist director Brady Corbett mentioned Plaza, 40, and Baen at the end of his acceptance speech on Sunday, Jan. 5, after winning a prize for best director. “My heart goes out to Aubrey Plaza and Jeff’s family,” he said.

“My first film was a big learning experience on all fronts, so working with her was beneficial because we have a shorthand and we have a close relationship,” Baena said of Plaza in an August 2022 television interview. Baena praised his wife’s dedication to her work, adding: “She’s insanely talented and so smart and obviously really good at producing. And she writes. Very few people can wear as many hats as she does, as elegantly as she does.’

The screenwriter noted that Plaza is “amazing” at “everything she does”.

“People generally point to her as the best part of any project she’s in,” he continued at the time. “She’s insanely talented and I’m very lucky to have her in my life.

While Plaza has remained largely tight-lipped about her marriage, she previously she shared details about her and Baena wedding ceremony.

“A lot of things happened for me during COVID. Yes, we got married. Big deal,” she shared during a December 2021 appearance on the website The Ellen Degeneres Show. “We were a little bored one night. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. That’s right, look at it.”

Plaza added, “I created a very quick altar of love in our backyard. The facts of our love, stones, smoke, fire. Things of that nature. Then a man from the Alhambra appeared in a Hawaiian shirt with a briefcase (to perform the ceremony). … I don’t remember much, it was a blur. But I’m pretty sure it’s legal.”
