Not every WWE icon got a hero’s welcome at the premiere Monday Night Raw on Netflix.
When the stars return, incl Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena and Gravedigger received a standing ovation at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California on Monday the 6th. Hulk Hogan got a completely different reaction.
Hogan, 71, was booed by a crowd of 17,000 as he pushed for WWE’s Netflix deal to air Rawwhich is moving from the USA Network, as well as its own partnership with WWE to promote its Real American Beer brand.
“I’ve had a variety of partners in the past,” the WWE Hall of Famer said over a chorus of jeers. Variety. “I had incredible partners, such as Macho Man Randy Savage. I had such giant partners André the giant. But the biggest partner that WWE has ever had is the fact that we’re making history tonight and WWE has partnered with Netflix, the biggest tag team partner of all time.”
Momentary clips went viral on X shortly after airing on Monday. One person wrote: “Hulk Hogan tries to appeal to wrestling fans and gets booed relentlessly. Once the face of professional wrestling, Hogan has been seen as an increasingly polarizing figure among wrestling fans over the past decade. In 2015 his the contract with the company was terminated and was suspended from the WWE Hall of Fame after a leaked tape surfaced of him using a racial slur.
Hogan apologized for his comments and said My Weekly in a statement at the time that there was “no excuse” for his offensive language. “I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise. I am disappointed in myself for using language that is offensive and incompatible with my own beliefs. It’s not who I am. I continue to work every day to improve myself as a person and this matter is an important learning experience for me in that regard,” he said. Our.
Hogan was restored to the WWE Hall of Fame in July 2018. “This second chance follows Hogan’s numerous public apologies and volunteer work with young people to help them learn from his mistake,” WWE said Our in a statement at the time. “These efforts led to the recent induction into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame.”
Earlier on Monday, WWE he announced multi-year agreement to promote the Hogan beer brand Raw and social media, including ring pad branding. WWE also stated that he would become a minority owner of the company.
