The former formally ended their marriage on Monday, Jan. 6, according to documents obtained by Fr My Weekly. The two parties thus “agreed to divide all assets and liabilities” to avoid further litigation and expenses.
Lopez, 55, gets to keep all of his personal belongings and earnings from the date of their split — April 26, 2024 — as well as half of their bank accounts. Affleck, 52, will get the same. Under the settlement agreement, they will also part with their $60 million Beverly Hills mansion, which is now on the market, but specific terms of the deal are under seal.
In the divorce, Lopez will retain her clothing, jewelry and “various personal effects in her possession, custody or control” and all property owned “individually or by entities of which (Lopez) is the sole owner, member or shareholder.”
The word “Bennifer” may conjure up memories of matte lip gloss and butterfly clips, but everything will eventually come back into style. Affleck, meanwhile, maintains his interest in the production company he co-founded, Artists Equity Matt Damon in November 2022. The agreement states that he will “pay, indemnify and hold harmless (Lopez) from all liabilities, claims, debts, suits, causes of action and/or tax liabilities associated with” the company.
They resolved the divorce through mediation in September. Lopez asked to drop “Affleck” from her last name and restore her legal name to Jennifer Lynn Lopez.
Actress filed for divorce from Affleck in August 2024. Instead of tapping a lawyer to file the papers on her behalf, Lopez filed them herself at two year anniversary the couple’s wedding in Georgia, despite the date of their separation being several months earlier.
A famous divorce lawyer at the time Chris Melcher suggested in an interview with Our that Lopez’s decision to file without an attorney was “deliberate to send a message that this is not going to be a fight.” Melcher speculated that the duo may have “worked out most of (the) issues before going public with the filing.
Lopez and Affleck have a long history. They met on the set of Box Office Bomb Lily in 2001 and got engaged in November 2002. They headed down the aisle in September 2003, but called off their wedding dates before the ceremony. They confirmed their separation in January 2004.
Sparks flew again when the couple — known as “Bennifer” — reunited in May 2021 and got engaged again in April 2022. They exchanged vows in Vegas in July and held a second ceremony in Georgia the following month.
Lopez was previously married Ojani Noah in the years 1997 to 1998, Chris Judd in the years 2001 to 2003 and Marc Anthony — with whom he shares twins Max and Emma — from 2004 to 2014. Affleck was married again Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018 and have three children together, Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.
In May 2024, rumors of marital problems began to circulate after Lopez and Affleck were not seen together in public for 47 days. Our he soon confirmed this Affleck moved out their home.
